Got my first bighead today.

I finally got a bighead today! And I ended up shooting three and my buddy, his second time ever bowfishing, shot two. We got 31 fish total. I miss counted the first time.

Nice! It's cool from the bowfishing standpoint how common bigheads are becoming up there.... but it's uncool from all other standpoints. :(

So, is you buddy hooked?

How long was your gar? You should sign up for IB9C. wink, wink....

Yep, he's hooked. He wants me to send him links to some sites to get his own gear. And the gar wasn't that long. Less than 3 feet I think.

I talked to a guy there who said a few weeks back the DNR shocked somewhere between 300 and 400 Asian carp up by the Brandon Locks on the DesPlaines Riverin Joliet. That's not good at all. It's pretty much proof positive they're here in numbers and here to stay. We saw over a dozen today.

Way to go Steve! It didn't take long for the bigheads to establish themselves in this area. I remeber Bulzeye making the local news after shooting a few only two years ago.

Judd is still lookingto catchhis firstbighead. I did 'catch' my annual case of poison ivy after walking the banks of the Des Plaines Conservation area last Friday.

Excellent Steve !!
Getting that first Bighead is very cool.
Heck, it's always cool. Kinda spoils you for other fish though. ;)

I can only imagine how exceited your friend must be to nail a couple of them on his second time out. My head would be reeling... and I'd have to buy some bowfishing gear on the way home. Great job getting a newby involved.

If he's looking next time you guys are in the area, the closest place that carries bowfishing stuff is http://www.strictlyfishing.com/in Shorewood. Then of course there is Gander Mountatin nearby too.

Keep whackin 'em.
