Mmm... meat. :D

Thedoe offered me a 20 yard slightly quartering away shot, which I took. Looked like my arrow hit too far back so I was pretty unhappy. She took a couple jumps and then trotted/walked off stopping 40 yards from my stand. She looked woozy and then I lost sight of her. Meanwhile her fawn milled around near my tree. Seeing as how I need two antlerless deer in order to shoot two bucks, I decided I'd shoot the fawn too. (sort of like insurance in case I couldn't find the doe.) The fawn dropped inside 30 yards.

Anyhow, I waited an hour and a half and then climbed down and snuck off. Came back with Deb and Drew, (the guy in charge of the deer hunt on the University property). He's training a blood trailing dog so he wantedit to try the easy trail from the fawn. That was kind of neat to watch. Anyhow, the mama doe dropped another 10 yards past where I last saw her so that was a big relief. (it was a liver/1 lung hit) We let the dog find that one too. (even tho' we'd already spotted it) That little dog was so excited.

Out the 55 hunters hunting this property, only 9 or 10 of us have gotten an antlerless deer yet. (14 total taken including my 3) So, I guess I'm lucky.

I was a teensy bit dissapointed to see that the fawn was a button buck. I guess because I was mostly looking down at him, I didn't notice his nubs. Oh well. The whole point of hunting this property is herd reduction.

The doe.

Thanks to Deb and Drew for helping me drag her out! She had some weight to her.

Junior.

Now I'm allowed to kill two bucks off this property. We'll see if the bucks cooperate.

Very nice job Christine. You've shot more deer than I've seen on stand this year already. I've only been out 4 times, but I'm still pretty discouraged.

That doe's pretty good size too. So you're fereezer's getting full, eh? Need some help eating it? I'd be glad to stop by. I'll even cook for you guys!

Congratulations on the double.

Nice double! The good thing about a double is lots of meat. The bad thing? Lots of butchering.

I'd still do it again in a heartbeat. ;)

Congradulations Christine, Deer slaying momma! Looks like we got to catch up. Went out yesterday to pick up my trail camera. On the way in found 5 rubs and 3 scrapes. The first for this year. So things are starting to pick up. So far have only seen one small 6pt out of my stand. Did see a giant last night pretty close to the house on my way into town. Still too many leaves and squirrels. Around our place hard to hear for all the bushy tails running around.
