RE: State Shoot pictures and results
I was waitin' for you to post first. I don't have any pics of my own to upload, except for 2 of me and Mark with a couple of our biggest fish to date.
It was a tough shoot to say the least. We all know there's tons of fish in that lakebut none of us could find them in any numbers anywhere. Mark and I got into some gar right off, but we got dumb and started getting selective just before dinner. We had missed a few 4-foot plus gar so we thought we'd just wait till after dark and clean up. We didn't see squat after dark! We finished 4th, but we were over 100-lbs behind 3rd. We realized on the way home that the biggest advantage you could have on that lake is a big boat with a big motor. At least for those conditions. We just couldn't get around to all the better spots because it took so long to go from one to the other. 1st and 2nd-place teams went all the way to the northern-most reaches for some of their fish. There were no shallow-flats to cruise. We were literally floating around tree-tops. And of course the buffs and commons were right up near shore. Wait till we get Mark's boat done.He might put a Chevy 350 in that barge. 300-horse power baby! I can't wait to see the looks on people's faces when he starts it. We'll be covering some water then. The shoot was awesome! For $30.00 folks got dinner, which was a great spread, and at least 2 door-prizes from our big fat prize-table. The first or second guy up got a brand new Retriever reel! There were a couple nice fillet knives up there, a digital scale (I wish I saw that one), fully rigged arrows and a pretty little pink reel-seat. Where the hell did that come from? Anyway, all that adds up to a butt-load of time on the phone getting donations. Plus we got the best spot in the whole state-park. Our boats were less than 100 yards away, we had tons of picnic tables delivered by the DNR. And the DNR took care of fish-disposal. That was the best shoot yet! Thank you very much Christine for all the hard work, and thanks to Kendall and Rob and Mark who did some of the cooking, and thanks to Joanne for all the behind the scenes stuff. It's all noticed and much appreciated. I hope our next president does half as much half as well. You really make this club, and so do all the others who help out. It's only all about shootin fish, but I like the way we do it. Here's our pics anyway; Mark with our biggest gar. Look at those arrows! We both hit it perfect. (but the recurve almost got a pass-through. Oneidas....) ![]() And this was my biggest buff yet. 15 pounds and change. That's Mark's arrow I'm holding. Mine fell out as soon as the fish cleared the gunnel. ![]() Thanks again to all our sponsors. We appreciate it. There's a few younger guys out there now that are hooked for sure, and this shoot is a big reason why. Carpbusters teams
These three teams took the most carp and received 75.00 each. Anybody that knows Shelbyville would be amazed that 24 carp was the most any team could get in 20 hours. [:-] ![]() The registration area ![]() Blue Ridge Backwoods booth. ![]() |

Dinner!
Mark prepares burgers and brats. ![]() Doc Grider prepares fresh gar balls. He also fried up some delicious bluegill fillets and bighead strips. ![]() The Clinton Duo brings carries over fresh gar fillets. I think Steve and Mark shot that particular gar and Kendall cleaned it. Kendall also cleaned at least one of our gar for teh gar balls. (It had to be a 30lb gar we donated.. um yeah, 30lbs ;)) ![]() Eating.. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
RE: State Shoot pictures and results
A bunch of us waited awhile before hitting the water again. Strategically, this was a mistake as even fewer fish were around after dark. Oh well.

ORIGINAL: buffhntr Hey steve I dont think anyone went north it was to muddy. I know we didnt when we talked to you that was as far north as we got. Most of our fish was shot at the dam or wolf creek You should have seen the places we got that little boat into. If there were fish in them spots, we would have done what none of you guys could have. I'm not complaining tho. It was a good shoot, we shot 2 of our biggest fish, that was the first time Mark and I got to shoot together this year, his first time on my boat and we finished 4th our of 16. And most important, everything worked great on my boat. One little issue with a bad recepticle on the genny, but we got by. I thought it was muddier north. |
RE: State Shoot pictures and results
Looks like you guys and gals had a good time, the gar the little blonde girl has is a nice one..Those are some really nice boats, gives me ideas on my 2.. Hopefully next year I will be ready, slow process..
