Got the gunnels done!

I've got 2-4" screws and 2-3" screws in each corner. They're pretty strong.

And I've got all new wood in the bow.

I put three coats of spar-varnish on everything and I plan on putting at least one more coat.
Now I have to figure out how I want to build my deck. I still have to put a piece of oak on the top of the gunnels andI still have to trim off all those bolts, but that's just details. The hard part is over (I think...).

Looking awesome!

But does it float? ;):D

I'm kinda surprized you didn't use carriage bolts down the side. Were they more expensive?

Thanks Christine.

No Kendall, I just wanted to crank on them to get them really tight and I couldn't get carriage bolts tight enough without them turning. The ones that are on it I bought by accident and I ran out of the hex-bolts.

Steve,

Do you realize you discovered a new element? Aluma-oak! Chemical symbol 'Ao' will now be added to the periodic table.

Wow! What an inspiration. My dad has a 11' (I think) john boat. I've been thinking about trying this whole bow fishing thing out. His boat is in a little better shape though.;)Can't wait to see the finished product.

Hey Ducsauce. Welcome the this side of the site. This is where I spend my summers. ;)

You've got to givebowfishing a try. It's the most fun you'll ever have with a bow in the off-season.

I was having a problem putting my cap on the gunnels, and I figured out that I had set them wrong. I had to plane them down so they were more level. That's alot of planing, let me tell you.

Now everything's ready for my cap and then lights and finishing touches. I have 100' of 1"-square tubing coming for my deck-frame. I wanted to do the whole thing in wood, but I'm worried about longevity, and I didn't want a wood-frame failing on me in the middle of the night, on the middle of a lake somewhere. I agreed to make a friend of mine some legs for his kitchen-table and he got me the tubing. Now I have to help Mark finish his boat so he'll help me weld up my new deck-frame. It's gonna be just like his old one/Chris' new one. I'm almost at the home-stretch now.

Just keeping you posted...

P.S.

After Kendall's comment about the bolts, I replaced them all with carriage-bolts. And I routed a round-over on the bottom of the gunnels all the way around.

I appreciate that. I'm definitely going to give it a shot. Seems like a lot of fun. Great looking progress on the boat. Keep it up.
