Found some weird bones

Mark and I went out this morning to do some scouting and pick out some stand-sites. We found these 2 bones. They were conected to each other when I first picked them up, but separated right after. In picture 3 I think, they were connected similarly.

Do you have any idea what they could be from? Therte is a creek not too far from where these were found, so I guess fish wouldn't be out of the question.

In pictures 2 and 5, you can see what looks like a 'break' or injury that has healed over, making the 'crest' of bone grow crooked. Pretty interesting.

Waterfowl sternum (breast bone/keel) and clavicle (wishbone). Prolly a goose.

Really?

I KNEW it was a wishbone!! But I've never seen one that 'heavy' before. And I knew the ridge-bone was for muscle structure, but I couldn't figure out how it would work. We were thinking it was part of a skull, but the bone didn't look strong enough to handle the muscle that that ridge-bone looked like it was meant for, for biting at least.

Thanks!

See, that's why you're my hero.

Well, I got the keel breastbone thing right, but that wishbone threw me.
Waterfowl just isn't my thing.
Cool find. I like the unique ones like that.
That reminds me, I still have pics of my crooked 5 point to post sometime.
His whole skull was twisted, and I have pics right after I shot him, and I now have the skull.

Hero, eh?

Glad to know my college classes finally are paying off. (laff...laff...)

Definitely get some pictures of your twisted deer on here Chris. (or email them to me) Sounds interesting.

I'd like to see that. I remember wondering if he did that when he fell after you shot him or was he like that already. Do you think it was an injury or does it look like he was born that way?

It had to be a disease or some genetic problem. The poor guy was only 1.5 years old, and his jaw was so twisted sideways that he could only get his teeth to mesh at one spot. Well over 5 years of wear in that place, andnone anywhere else.

Looking at any other part of him, you'd think he was perfectly healthy.
When I got the skull back from the taxidermist, I took a real good look at it and compared some measurements from one side of his face against the other, and found that his entire skull's bone growth was affected, not just the jaw. The eye sockets were in slightly different places, the plates that make up the skull and nose were all different lengths, and even his antler bases were in different spots and rotated a bit. A very unique find. I'll send pics to Christine.
