first gar

my dad and i were out today for a while and we shot 7 buffs, 9 commons, and 3 gar. i shot 2 gar and my dad shot his first. the cool thing about it was that it was 46 inches long and weighed 10 pounds. we also took some action pictures.

my dad with gar:

Nice shootin! Those are good pictures showing how thick the weeds are getting out in the DesPlaines.

Nice pics.
Tell your Dad congrats on the first Gar.
It's always nice to add a species to the trophy list.

You'll want to keep tinsnips handy if you're getting into gar and want to try the meat. Guys who shoot lots of gar use gloves while fishing to keep from getting cut on their scales.
