RE: time to play
Well the first half is over. We finally got on the water around 1pm. Was horrendesly windy. Had all the foam blown off the water in the normal places. Did not take too long and i nailed a nice 15# plus grasse first shot. We then went a long time with nothing. Finally Diana nailed a 13# big head and I Missed one. A little later i got a small 6# buffalo and little gar. Then she shot another big head about the same size as the other one. We got it up to the boat, and as i was about to gaff it, it made another run and pulled off. By then it was time to hit the trail. Water was as clear as i have ever seen it, just too windy.

RE: time to play
I'd love the clear water you have down there.
This pea soup is killing me, although the DesPlaines was pretty good this morning when I got out with Mark S. Fish were scarce because the water was low enough to keep them off the flats, but we managed about 10 or 12 mixed species under 10 pounds, including a decent bigmouth buff. I'll let Mark add to the fish count, since he took them home. Would somebody please get KBI his Bighead fix already?! |
RE: time to play
Well the final chapter of our weekend is now history. We got to Shelbyville lake yesterday 7/15 around 6pm. Lots of boaters were loading up. We unloaded and headed down to Lithua springs marina for a bite to eat. By the time we left there the lake was almost clear. We loaded up for the night and headed down to Skull cove and got there right at dark. Well you know how low the water has been. The weeds and grass has grown down to the water's edge. So now the water is up so the fish are all in the weeds. It is frustrating to see just the grass moving and not be able to see the fish. The water clarity is so so. Well all we were able to get there was some gar. In fact we shot two short nose gar that would have beat the state records. One at 6.13 and one at 7.7 The problem was the picture of the weight on the scale did not come out. We ended up with 10 short nose, 4 common and 2 buffalo, one large mouth and one small mouth. By 10pm we started having steam on the water. that was the largest problem with seeing fish. Did see a giant long nose in the 5-6 foot range. He gave us at least an hour more adrenelin. Finally at 2:30 could not hardly see anything, so we called it a night.
