Shelbyville Button Buck

After 5 days of hunting the southern portion of Lake Shelbyville, I finally saw a deer within bow range - albeit a button buck. I took this one at 10 yards. Hunting public land is a challenge - I saw two shotgun hunters scoutingthe area I was hunting - one even brought his german shepard.

I am happy to put meat inthe fridge this year.

Good job buddy!
Glad to hear you had success down there.

Lots better eating than carp, although I'm getting the itch to whack a few of those too. :D

Congrats!!

I agree on the public land challenges. I shot a button buck today too and I'm thrilled that I got a deer for the freezer. :D

Thanks everyone, I will probably get out one more time but I will be a little more selective.

While at Shelbyville last weekend we went into this same cove on both days and both times could have shot a doe. The first day it was a yearling and I got several pictures and it just did not give us a care. On Sunday there were 5 does and yearlings. The same thing they just did not give us a look. Would have been easy pickings. Did see several boats tied up in different coves with bow cases in them. Wonder what they were doing?

In some areas, boats are the only means of access unless you want to walk 2 miles through the brush and forest. The owner of the Lithia Resort has a pontoon boat that he takes across the lake and he usually shoots a P&Y buck every year - last year being the only exception since he was building cabins. The heads he has mounted in his living room will make you drool - and they're all bow kills.
