Buck at the butcher. (PIC)
 

Yesterday morning I was blessed with the opportunity to harvest a young 5 point buck from Kankakee county. I had been in my tree stand for less than 20 minutes when he walked by at a mere 12 yards completely unaware of me. He expired quickly after the shot and again I was blessed with an easy recovery without having to track the deer.

[/align]My wife and 4 year old daughter were able to come out to take a few pictures, and to see the field dressing process which neither had seen before.My little girlis proud of her Daddy, andmy wifeis a real trooper for coming out. They even brought celebratory coffee and doughnuts.Bowman was huntingnearby that day, so he helped out with holding the deer steady for gutting and snapped a few pics of his own.

That's why she's out there with me now. She's alreadygone onsome low
key scouting trips with me, and now has seen and felt a dead deer in person, and she seems to have accepted the blood and guts, which she understands will be food for coyotes and other animals.

At 4 years, she's still too antsy to sit still in a blind for more than a few minutes, but she likes seeing deer, finding tracks, and understands that the deer are here for us to make use of as food. She may not grow up to be a hunter herself, but I want her to have an understanding of it.

That's awesome! We need more parents like you! I have a daughter that will be going out with me this year (she's four also) on some retrievals as well, and possibly some goose hunts.

Congrats again Bulz. That's gonna be some tender meat. Remember me when you want company for dinner, since your sweety doesn't like venison.

We did the autopsy and found that Bulz hit everything ; the liver, both lungs, knicked the heart (another 1/4" and it would have been fatal itself), and cut the aorta, which is one of the main arteries leaving the heart. No wonder that deer went as quick as he did. It doesn't get any better than that. That artery is about the size of a man's little finger. That's as humane a kill as you can get!

Now you can take yourtime and wait for one of those big boys out there! The rut's starting real soon.
