Look what I saw on the Fox today.
 

I got off work a little early today and decided to bring my camera down to a spot I go to once in a while on the Fox river on my way home. A pleasant surprise!



The video's not as good as I would have liked, but I thought you might be interested to see it.

I should probably mention that I was on a bridge about 20 feet over the water, and the fish was maybe 40-50 feet away from the bridge.

I saw it closer when I first walked out onto the bridge (assuming it was the same fish), and it was definetly over 3 feet long. I guessed about 40". It had very distinct spots, and it's nose was short.

We'll have to see just how many big ones are out there.

I did see a few 3 foot longnose on the Des Plaines in a few different places. Gar intrigue me. I think it's the whole, 'hunt the predator' thing that I like. That, and they seem to be the least polluted, best tasting of the locally available bowfishables. Or maybe it's just the outright challenge of hitting the skinny things.

I'm going to keep asking you if you have your bow with you now! Might be interesting dragging up a thrashing gar onto the bridge.

you eat gar?????I have heard there are good never tryed them my self ,we have some 6 or 7 ft. long where I fish .Santee cooper in S.C. [8D][8D][8D][8D]

I wouldn't shoot it from the bridge! I'll bring the canoe down there if/when I go bowfishing again. There's a canoe launch 1/4 mile upstream from the bridge. Hey, maybe you should bring your boat there Mark.

Seem's to me we have just settled the lock ness monster issue it in hte fox river....;)
