Thanks for a great Carpbusters Tourney

Just got back from the Illinois Carpbusters Tourney and wanted to thank all the people that made this successful event happen. Thanks go to JoAnn and Mrs. McGuire for an outstanding breakfast on Saturday morning. Dave Randolph, "Mr. Tournament Director" delivered a well organized event which he always does. Mr. Robert Rice of Carpbusters fame forhis generous dontation of$1100 towards the prize money. Deb from Blue Ridge Archery in Monticello, IL for her retail booth and supplies. Kendall Carrigan and Christine Appleberg for all their hard work in setting this whole thing up and dealing with all the numerous details. The Clinton Lake CPO guys who were very kind, thoughtful and worked with us in all apects to keep it safe out there on the busy water. And finally thanks go to all 19 teams that showed up, without you it couldn't have been asuccess, I only wish I didn't have to bug out so earlyso we could have spent more time chatting, but KBI Pres had to work in the afternoon and I had to fly out of O'Hare. Thanks again to all andnext year should be even better.

RE: Thanks for a great Carpbusters Tourney

I had a great time. It was nice to see a bunch of the teams again, and meet others in person for the first time. First rate event. Thanks to eveyone who ran it, helped out, and participated in the de-carping activity.

What a marathon! I've never done a long shoot like that one. These are some serious bowfishers, and some seriously dedicated people running the event. It's amazing to see just how many different ways you can mount lights to a boat.

My partner (Snuffy) and I came in for dinner and a few (all too brief) hours of sleep, but some teams disappeared over the horizon as soon as they hit the water, and weren't seen again until the weigh-in. I don't know how they do it, especially with the heat. I have blisters on my shooting fingers from drawing so much.

Whew.. What a weekend!

Except for mebeing a zombie on Sunday morning, everything went really great. I thank all of you guys and gals who helped cook, register shooters, inspect boats, count fish, etc.. etc.. I thank our shooters for being there and really being fun to be around. Thanks to Blue Ridge for having that nice vendors booth. (even if everybody bought up the stuff I wanted before I got to it.) ;)

Over 1,000 carp!!!

Looks like the no wake rule didn't keep anyone away or keep them from shooting a whole bunch of carp. Way to go, folks!!! :D

RE: Thanks for a great Carpbusters Tourney

I don't think the no-wake was a problem at all. In fact it was kind of nice not having all the jet skis and power boats zooming around.('cept for a couple of scofflaws) Since everybody had to go no-wake, all the boats were on the same playing field at night. That was probably the first time that the Central Illinois Rough Fish Control Unit was able to keep up with the other boats. hee hee

1094 carp were brought in. Not bad at all.

We had several 'juniors' and three gals shooting in the tourney too. I like to see that. :)

Wow! I'm still not recovered. :D
It was a great time. I will not even try to thank everyone 'cause I'll forget somebody and I don't want them to feel left out. I would not want that. But, I do have to say a big thank you to some people who made this shoot as good as it was and went out of their way for everyone. Joanne Chandler, Larry and Susan McGuire and Jered Shofner. These folks gave a great deal of time to make sure our shoot went well even though they weren't in it. There aren't enough clappy hands icons to do you guys justice. Thank You!!!
OK two more, Thanks to Robert Rice and the Native Fish Conservancy for donating the top prize. And for making this shoot possible, Mike Garthaus and Jim Capel for paving the way to get this lake open to bowfishing.
Again we had so much help from so many good people. Thanks to all. Next year it will be bigger, badder, shorter and cooler!
See you there.;)

Fishpoint, definitely try to make it out to Wonder Lake (August 12)and/or the Shelbyville fun shoot on Sept 9. I look forward to meeting you. :)

Here are some pictures from the Carpbusters tourney. I didn't get great pictures because I wasdoing one or all of the following...1) Getting people registered; 2) Out bowfishing; 3) Melting; or 4) Goofing off. [:-]

Carpbusters signs and Banners. Nice job Dave!

Soon there are bunches of people.

And lots of boats

The temperature wasa tad bit on the warm side. I think the heat index was over 110 for about half of the tournament.[:o] Several bowfishers spent the hottest part of the day swimming.

Where ever there was shade, somebody was hiding in it. :D (that's Blue Ridge Backwood Archery shop's tent with all the shirts)

Indy Boys... they shot fish, went swimming and worked on their tans. ;)

Carp counting time.

Garzzilla, the stealth bowfishing rig. (comes with it's own shade!)

Team Oneida

Our Shelbyville buddies.

The CIRFCU didn't do too bad for the short amount of time we had on the water.

The Followell's boat. This was the 'sleeper' team. Dad Chris Followell took out his daughter Allie and nephew Keegan (both teenagers) and they took 4th place. Excellent job!!

Alex and Dave checking in.

CarpTrek from Indiana

Kendall and JohnnyB unloading carp. Check out the carp slime droplets. Kendall gets a big thanks for being the barrel diver. Blicky.. [:'(]

Alex settles in for a long count while Kendall gets a workout tossing the carp from the River's Edge boat.

I don't have pictures of everybody's boat. Sorry!

More picture one the next page.
