Friday night bigheads
Spent a windy night on the Miss River near St. Louis Friday night. Ended up cowering near the lock and dam for shelter from the wind, but shot 40 bigheads from 11:00 till daylight. No big ones though, the biggest went 30 lbs. I shot 32 or 33 of them myself so had to take a break and let the cameramen shoot one or two.:D I will post a pic or two later.
Christine...how did your night go??? |
RE: Friday night bigheads
I saw more bigheads than I've ever seen... but they were so dang spooky.
We'd shine the spotlight just in the front of the boat and fish would splash away up to 100 yards out. (one freaks... they all freak) Eventually, we went to just using my hawglite. That worked better but by then it was starting to get light out. So between getting to Carlyle around midnight, launching at the wrong launch, goofing off downstreamand then finally getting up to the dam at 3am,our measley total of 3 bigheads didn't seem so bad. [:-] |
RE: Friday night bigheads
Here is the heaviest one...big belly, I guess full of eggs.

And, I am not a fan of piles of bloody fish pix, but this shows the night's activities pretty well.

RE: Friday night bigheads
Ya see Christine, youhave to go after those pen raised Bigheads, they aren't nearly as easily spooked by the least little light like wild Bigheads :D Nice photos Robin!

|
RE: Friday night bigheads
Impressive!!!
|
RE: Friday night bigheads
Robin after looking at a map (better late than never) I think where you went is at least a half hour closer than Carlyle. Hmm....
When is the next time you're going out that way? :) |
RE: Friday night bigheads
Most impressive and I'm still looking for a 20lb + bighead, so those all look big to me.
|
RE: Friday night bigheads
Wow!
I see howshooting the Bigheads can become evan more addictive than regular bowfishing. |
RE: Friday night bigheads
WOW! Great pile 'o fish (blood and all). Can't wait to tie into some big heads like that!!
|
RE: Friday night bigheads
Robin nice pics sounds like you had a great time
Christine sounds like you did not get to tie into them like you wanted I knew they were spooky but not that bad I have not used a boat set up there was it the lights themselves spooking them or what |
RE: Friday night bigheads
Christine: Closer huh? Not sure when, but soon I am sure. Plenty of fish, just disappointed in the size, but that is because I want one over 50...
Still fun for sure. |
RE: Friday night bigheads
Robin,
Just was talking to my cousin who lives in St. Louis. If you do not mind could you let me know where you put in at on the Miss. He is just dieing to get out and wack some. We were going to meet down at Carlyle, but that is out the window now. Thanks for any help.. |

RE: Friday night bigheads
I haven't even seen a bighead yet, or a silver for that matter.
Can't wait though. They really have to be something to be slightly disappointed if you don't get one over 50#. :D |

RE: Friday night bigheads
Headed down to Ky Dam this weekend. Leaving on Friday evening, should get down there around 10 pm. Will shoot all night, catch some sleep on Saturday morning, and then hit it again in the afternoon. Will be introducing a new guy, his son and a buddy to big heads. Sure will ruin them for shoot carp up on Michigan. He is the editor for the Christian bowhunters of America. He is wanting to do an article on bowfishing. We are letting snuffy come too, we need his boat.lol Hopefully the Fouth of july crowds will be gone by then. I'll keep you posted...
