Clinton Lake 6/14 night shift
I hadn't shot since the State shoot and last night about 6:30 Pm I got the itch and so I took a page out of ole' Uncle Dave's book. I don't own a dog like Dave will often take and my two cats are definitely not condusive to water and so I headed overto Clinton Laketo get a few hours on the night shift, couldn't stay too late because of work this mornng. Johnny B was correct in that much of the water is heavily stained and on top of that (pardon the pun) you have a thick layer of algae so visibility in some normally excellent areas was zero. There were still fish to shoot and in the end I was able to shoot 36 common carp but in typical Clinton fashion, none were more than a few (read couple)pounds. If the conditions are right, the Carpbusters Tourney at the end of July could produce some excellent numbers.

Rob, Glad to hear that you got out. 36 is a pretty good shoot for poor conditions. Do you know anything out this weekend yet?

Not yet, haven't heard from KBI prez, myson, or anyone else for that matter. I may be doing the loner thing down there as well. Looking at my calendar, it's the only weekend I have available in June or July. When I think of chasing those Bigheads by myself, I keep thinking of Gregory Peck all entangled in the ropeon the side of Moby Dick with his head swaying lifelessly side to side. You've never seen an all white Bighead have you? I hope not.

I saw some all-white bigheads on the Illinois the other night.
They were bloated and floating too. The only scary thing about them was the smell. [:'(] I still think we're going to carlyle this weekend. |

Hay Robow, Just wanted to say that I'm pretty impressed that you were able to wack 36 in those conditions andby your self. I have went out a few times by my self and it is hard to drive, shoot, deal with the fish all at the same time. Nice going, Like KBI- Said ' you tha Man'. johnny b.

Joined: 9/28/2005 Status: online Went to Clinton Lake last night, 6/18, for some scouting, a little shooting, and very little scoring. Add another 14 common carp. The only thing that made this trip notable is that my innate infallible sense of direction got me lost or at least turned around. I do really think I entered into some time-warp continuum or maybe that was Rod Serling standing on the shore because there is no way you can head NE following the northerly bank, cut a perpindicular line across the lake to that direction andfollow the shoreline to the right and still end up travelling NE, but I did it. For a while I thought I might end up sleeping on the boat again, (not the first time) but I finally decided to believe in my compass and GPS and darn if those things aren't the berries. Yea, Johnny B. I'm the man alright. ha Move over Phil M., I too am such as idiot [:'(] |
