Illinois Bowfishing Championship Pics

The 2006 Illinois Bowfishers State Championship was a great event!
It was a long and busy weekend for me but I had a wonderful time.If this post isn't completely coherent.. well, I'm still sleep deprived.

We had 26 shooters in 10 teams shoot the event. Two youth shooters were in there. Austin was one of the youth shooters and this was his first tourny. To say he was pumped is quite the understatement.
Congrats on your first tourny Austin!
We had one airboat, two fan boats, two pontoon boats anda various assortment ofjon boats. (lowes, tracker, triton, g3..)
Here are some of the boats.
The Carp Trek Air boat. This boat definitely turns heads.

Slim's slick rig.

The Indy Boys rig is new and proved worthy. Nice fan and mud motor.

This is Todd's pontoon boat. The first thing I thought of when I saw it was the float from Animal House. The one that looked like a cake and said 'Eat Me'. I kept waiting foran old Lincoln to come pulling out from underneath of it.

You gotta luv it!

We had our cookout at the campground at 5pm-8pm. All the teams came in for the chow and we several non-shooting guests too. (I think we fed 31 people.) I know we went through alot of food. There were bratwurst, polish sausage, burgers andwe fried up around 6lbs of buffalo fillets.Plenty of chips, drinks and potato salad too.

Kevin Chapman, the president of the Illinois Bowhunters Society, stopped by to check things out. He brought along his son. His son checked out the boats and now I hear he's telling dad that their bass boat needs a generator and lights.
...more coming....

The tournywas a big 20 format, but you could only enter a max of 8 of any one species. (carp, gar, buffalo) Finding carp was no problem. We could have shot hundreds. It was a bummer to pass 'em up, but once you had some decent ones in the boat there was no sense in shooting bunches of smaller ones. The gar were around but not as numerous. The buffs are the tough target for this shoot. I didn't see a single one and not many were taken. This type of format really makes it a challenge.
Johnny B thought it would best to get his 8 gar as quick as possible... with the least amount of shots. Nice job Johnny!

John went the route of trying to shoot only state records... Here he is with the new Illinois record Shortnose gar. 6lbs 13oz.

Billy K and Rob weren't taking any chances and were putting two arrows in fish. Their crackshot accuracy resulted in one arrow shooting through the other! They even got the carp. I guess it looked just like our logo.. unfortunately, no camera was on the boat.

What do you mean there's no 'smallest fish pot'!!???

Weigh-in time arrives. The crowd gathers....

Results are tallied... and it's the usual suspects at the winner's circle.

That's not a typo... the Triton of Terror did weigh-in more fish than the Stanford Fishstickers. Of course, they brought in a secret weapon --- a third shooter. I have lots of other excuses too. [&:]
Third place goes to The Indy Boys. Congrats again!

Second place to The Carp Trek Team (also from Indiana). Congrats!!!

First place winners.... The Whackem and Stackem team. Well done, well done!

The group of winners. (one day I will be in there....sigh....)

Those are all the pictures I have right now. I'm waiting for some more to be sent to me. (if you have pictures please send them)
A big thanks to all who attended. Things went very smoothly and that's because we had a great bunch of people there.
A special thanks goes out to Joanne!
We had aawesome table full of door prizes.
Jason Wesbrock donated a brand new Bowfisher 888 reel and reel seat.

Congrats winners !!!
Holy cow!
That's quite the turn of events...
-A rare triple hit (on armored gar no-less) Nice shooting Johnny.
-A record short-nose.
-and an impaled arrow, all on the same trip!
Thanks to all our sponsors, and to everyone who worked so hard to make it such a great trip.

Congrats and kudos to everyone who won. And who showed up and participated, COME BACK NEXT YEAR!!!
Man, that was an eventful-event. I loved the arrow-shaft-shoot-thru. Who shot that anyways Bill?
And I especially loved Johnny B's 'triple-strike'. That had to be cool to do! I didn't know gar would stack-up like that. Hey Johnny, what pound draw is your bow?

Mr. Bowman 15,
I am only shooting 54#, but it is an oneida. And it is only 20 years old. Yes, for me too. was the first time i ever seen gar stacked up and thrashing like carp. I knew there were two there but did not see the third until it showed up on the arrow. Also a picture was a must. I called a best buddy, and the first thing he said was, 'better have proof'. How's that for a buddy. And it goes with out saying that it was a great shoot, lots of fish. I shot a carp before by partner had his bow in hand. Saturday was really lots and lots of shooting and lots of missing too. I guess they go hand in hand..
