Argali Sheep Hunting

Kyrgyzstan argali is on average smaller than Tajikistan. However, trophies well over 50 inches and up to 60 are not unusual. A car ride from Bishkek to the hunting area takes about 7 hours. Base camp is located at 3,200 meters (10,500 ft.) above the sea level. The camp has warm cabins, an indoor toilet, running water and electricity from the generator. There is a satellite phone for emergencies. Hunting takes place at altitudes of 3,000 – 4,000 meters (9,500 – 12,500 ft.) and requires good physical endurance. Hunters should expect to spend up to 6-8 hours per day riding horses. Daytime temperature is around +10C (+50F) in the fall and –20C (-4F) in the winter, at night it can drop to -40C (-40F). Hunters are required to bring sleeping bags, camo clothes according to the season, sunglasses, spotting scope, binoculars, and sunscreen. Shots are expected within 300-600 yards range, therefore flat shooting rifle with good optics and a range finder are necessary.

Details: Eurasian lynx found in Russian taiga forests is the largest among the species. Mature males can exceed
30 kg (65 lbs). Lynx is almost exclusively hunted with dogs. The best time is early in the middle of the season
when the snow cover is not too deep, and the dogs can move freely, or later in the season when it is deep
enough to use snowmobiles. Temperature can be as low as -25C to - 40C (-10F to -40F). This hunt has been
100% successful. Additional trophies include wolf or wolverine.

Snow sheep in Kamchatka

Kamchatka snow sheep – Kamchatka bighorn – inhabits the central part of the Kamchatka Peninsula. These sheep horns have the heaviest bases of all snow sheep; it is darker in color than other snow sheep. Kamchatka snow sheep does not have a typical light or white forehead patch. The average trophy size is about 37 inches, with many 40-inch rams taken. The largest rams can measure 42-43 inches.
Kolyma snow sheep is found only in the Magadan Region, predominantly in the Kolyma mountain range. The habitat of Kamchatka bighorn is relatively easy to access, and the hunt is the least expensive.High population of snow sheep in Russia allows for a success rate of over 90%. Temperature during the hunt can range from +5 to +20 C (40-70 F) to – 10 C (5 F) at the end of September. Hunters are expected to be physically fit. The hunter may spend a few nights away from the base camp and may be required to ride a horse. Shooting is usually within 200 meters (220 yards) range.
