Best metal for hunting knives?
 

Hi All.

I am in the market for a good fixed blade factory knife for deer hunting. I have sort of narrowed my search down to two blades, one from Benchmade and the other from Beretta. The links to both are here:

My question is, which of these two have the better steel? The Benchmade is using 440C stainless steel, and the Beretta is using AUS 8. I will be using the knife to field dress and skin deer.

I'm also open to any other suggestions of a good knife from any other company, preferably in the $100 range.

I have done some research and this is what I came up with. I'm going with a custom made knife by a gentlemen in Mississippi by the name of Gene Ingram. He hand makes all of his knives. I put in an order today (June 16th) and he said I should have it by the end of October. Here's a link to his knives. He uses G2 tool steel, which isn't stainless, but hold's an edge longer because it is harder than most stainless. There is still a high Chromium content in it, so it is nearly stainless.

Well, if you are still looking for a good fixed blade skinning knife Cold Steel makes one called the Pendleton Hunter, fixin to buy one before deer season myself. Just my 2 cents.

Hey man, You'll get alot more response if you take this to the hunting gear reviews. This the classifieds, you wont get much response here. This is for selling or buying or trading hunting gear. Just thought I would let you know.
