digital trail camera

I'm interested in getting a digital trail camera and have never owned a trail camera before. Which make and models are good ones and also, who has the best prices.

I own a 1.3mp stealth and I would recommend you steer clear from the digital stealth line. My can only takes day pics when the temps drop below 30 dergees. it takes night picts but the flash dosen't cycle and I end up with a cf card full of black pictures. I've yet to hear a good thing about the 3.0mp stealth. The biggest complaint is battery consumption.

If I were in the market again I would seriously consider building a home brew. TinPA2 is a wealth of information on home brews. I think that's the route to go if you want more bang for you buck.

I've been buying digital scouting cameras over the last several months and putting them to the test. You can see some of what I have learned so far at the following web page

http://www.whitetaildeer-management-...ra-review.html

I put out my fourth camera this past weekend. It's getting expensive but it is interesting to compare them, and looking at all of the pictures.

I got real frustrated last summer when I was looking for a digital. The sales ads do not tell you everything you need to know.

I haven't read many good things about the Stealth cams other than the low price. I suppose I'll get one and try it myself sometime this year.

Good Luck

The Leaf River Models are the best that I have tried, far better than the 2 Cuddebacks I have owned. The Stealths are just plain JUNK!!!

The images are always excellent

I have a Leaf River too, and love it. I've only put it out twice, but the picture quality is great. BTW, GREAT Pics Cornfed!

I just can't get over the quality of images I get from these units. I also my Leaf Rivers set on 3 shots per activation so it will snap off pics every 30 seconds a critter is within it's range and I have recorded thousands of images. With a quality digital you truly can LEARN what's going on out there! I love 'em!

IL-Cornfed,
I have a leaf river and love it. I just was wondering if you made the date and time on your pictures smaller somehow? On my pictures, the date and time seem much larger. Just wondering if there is an option, maybe I'll have to get out the directions. Thanks

Paul

Booney160,

Your LR probably has the larger date/time like this one. These are the latest models because more folks said that they wanted the larger date/time.
