i got two knives i use when gutting and skinning, they are both buck knives, i have one with a 6" blade, and the other is sbout 4.5" long with the gutting hook on the end, both cost about $125 each and seem to do well for me.

Gerbers! They are reliable and do the job. Gerbers are easier to sharpen than most knives IMO. Check out the LST Magnum along with the Gator. For the money the LST Magnum is a great buy and its also made in America.

Check out this company.

http://www.wolverineknifeworks.com/index.htm

Custom knives, by guys who know what they are doing, lifetime guarantee on edge, and everything. Not too expensive. I have two, a "chub" and a custom with the skinner blade and very distinct whitetail antler handle. Plus they're made in the U.P. of Michigan. Used to be Wolverine Knives, but the Wolverine Boot Co. came after 'em, so they are Rapid River Knives now.
