I have tried both rattle bags and traditional antlers in the pre rut, rut and post rut. Tried in the am and in the evening. I've tried short & long sequences both lightly and loud. Frankly, I haven't had any success with either of them. Somehow, I keep trying.

I made my own bag, I cut 2 round 1in. ash dowels in half about 8in. in length and I used
2 1"x1" x 8" oak pcs and put then in a bag made of heavy camo material and they work
pretty good and are easy to carry. I would think that in a pre-rut phase there wouldn't be much of a differance what you used. Try it, it may just work for you

I'd never used anything until this fall when I picked up the HS Heavy Horns Rattle Bag. In mid Oct in MN I went out one afternoon and did some rattling. Brought a nice buck in and he snuck in downwind of me. Busted. I do have some smaller real antlers but have yet to find a big set of sheds to use. Guess I have no preference at this point as I've only used the bag. Looking forward to trying it this fall again.

Real antlers are best in my experience. I tried a bag because real antlers were hard to manage and use efficiently in the field. Without any success I wanted my real antlers back. As luck would have it I came up with the perfect solution for those who love to rattle antlers, it's called the Horn Holster. The Horn Holster is patented, Stoney Wolf Productions is distibuting it and Roger Raglin is endorsing it. It should be in most major retailers this fall. My web site is www.hornholster.com, if you like to rattle antlers you need to check it out.

REAL HORNS
With real horns you can get difrant sizes. This will make a big difrances in what come to you and getsin shooting range.I have a real big set for any place I knoe the big boy is at.The bigger horns keep the smaller bucks away but makes the big boys run right in .

My last reply was was in response to ike1371s question.
If you like to rattle, please check out my website. With Horn Holster there's no need for a bag.
