meat grinders
Anybody use the meat grinders from Basspro or Cabelas? I'm thinking about buying the 1/3 hp grinder to grind my own venison this year. I have always used my neighbors old homemade setup, but would like my own. We usually get 2 or 3 deer a year and I wonder how that 1/3 horse would hold up over the years. Jim

RE: meat grinders
i have a crank model and a cheap electric my wife picked up somewhere. the one i like the most is the attatchment that goes on a kitchen aid stand mixer. heavy duty motor, and does a good quick job. you can still use the mixer for other things, besides just a grinder.

RE: meat grinders
I have the large Universal hand grinder and I also have the Kitchen Aid mixer and grinder attachment. I prefer the universal. I also have the sausage stuffing atachments as well. I sure wouldn't trade it for any of the others . . . but I haven't taken my Elk yet!

RE: meat grinders
a friend of mine bought a hand grinder, then fixed it with pulleys to an electric motor. it took a little know-how to get the right sized pulleys and belt, but it'll grind meat like a wood chipper and not look back.

RE: meat grinders
I have done what gasser suggested about 20 years ago and I used four pulleys to gear it down on an old 3/4 hp electric motor. If you want to try it contact me and I'll give you the sizes of the pulleys. It works very well and I have probably 60 or 70 bucks tied up in it.
