Rewiew your hunting "set-up"
This type of post was started on the Bow Gear Review. Thought it might be something that would be of interest here. The idea is to post your most used outfit (gun(s), scope, ammo, clothing, calls. etc.) that you use for hunting. Good way to get a lot of info out in one post. Just a thought - here's mine:
Ithaca 37 Deerslayer (12 ga) - Love my Ithaca (only had for a couple years). Quite light compared to my Rem 870). Very good shooter and comfartable. Remington 870 (12 ga) - Now my "back-up" gun. Can't say anything bad about it. Llama .45 - My normal sidearm. A finisher if needed. Good durable gun and reasonably priced. Easy to carry. (also have a Ruger Super Blackhawk .44 - theory was to hunt with it but haven't really done much with it; nice gun though) Bushnell - Will never go with anything else. All my guns have Busnell scopes and I have their binos and rangefinder. No complaits on any of them. Quality product at reasonable prices. Winchester slugs - seem to work the best out of my guns. Codet 6 pocket wool pants - Very good clothing and very reasonably priced. Extra pockets come in handy Woolrich Jack-Shirt - Good for milder temps and hiking. Lacrosse Deer Hunter Boots (??) - I have been very pleased with these boots. Comfortable and warm. LL Bean Boots - Not much to say - I think evereyone knows these boots are quality. (however, I decided to bump up a size when I got them resoled and they are now a bit too big - even heavy socks don't help much) neck gaiter - one of the best peices of clothing I have. Warm, versitile, and comfortable Under Armor (and similar varieties) - just got some of the UA and some Cabelas & Bass Pro varieties and have been happy so far. The UA leggings are quite warm. All brands seem to help wick away moisture. That's just a quick overview of some of my stuff. What do you have that you like/dislike? |

RE: Rewiew your hunting "set-up"
Guns - Marlin 336 w/ 150 grain bullets (Winchester or Remington). No scope, just open sights. Not glamourus, but will kill deer, even when the shot is not nice and clean. If I am hunting specifically for deer, I will have this gun with me.
Browning A-Bolt Composite Stalker .223 w/ 3-9x40 Nikon Buckmaster scope. Hornady 40 grain V-Max Moly. Kills coyotes and other critters dead out to a couple hundred yards. Only drawback is the shot must be clean. A twig or broomweed will cause the bullets to expand prematurely. The coyote will lose a lot of hair, but that's about it. Clothing - Wranglers, western shirt. Not picky here. Boots - Wolverines. Camoflauge - Cabela's Leafy-wear. Great stuff. I can get really close when stalking and get away with a great deal more movement since my outline is broken up. Only drawback is that it hangs on catclaw and other brush, so I go without it if I have to walk through much. Jacket - Remington 4-in-1 Parka. All my other jackets are Carhart brown. I would hate to be mistaken for a deer by someone that is a good shot, but just a little trigger happy. Knife - Buck Selector Calls - Old sheds for rattling. Scent - Acorn and smoke if I feel like it. Camera - Pentax 35mm with 120-300 zoom lens and tripod. Shot a lot more stuff with this than either gun. I prefer Kodak 400 speed film, since most of my shooting is in low light. Forgot to throw in binoculars - Swarovski SLC 10x42. From the hills I can scan for miles, passing the time until the deer arrive. I can also spot them and try to move to intercept them. |
