ArcticShield Vs. Cabelas MT050 Whitetail Extreme

Hello Everyone,

I'm currently looking for a cold weather system (jacket/bib) for this year's Colorado rifle deer/elk hunting season and I've narrowed it down to ArcticShield and Cabela's MT050 Whitetail Extreme. If I could, I would like to hear from anyone who has had experience with these products or anyone who has any helpful information on these two products.

My main concern is to have the product keep me warm through below freezing temps (will be hunting the early and late season up in the Rocky Mountains), wind proof, waterproof (snow & rain), and the ability to take the abuse of many seasons of hunting. Please inform.

Thanks in advance.

I have no experience with the Cabela's Brand, but I've been using Arctic Sheild for a couple of years now. There's no gimmick here. I have stayed warm in some harsh conditions. 20 degrees with 17 mph wind. Arctic Shield reflects heat rather than being an insulator that slows heat loss. I have been very happy with the results that I've had with their Jacket , gloves and boot insulators.

I have the MT50 Extreme. No real complaints here. I use them for stand hunting only, Too hot to hike in. The parka is a little bulky for bow hunting, but it works. I turn the collar under and try to stap it down with harness and bino strap. The pants fit like a champ! Nice waist band. I did rip them fairly easy clinbing a fence. I don't know if the Arctic would ripped under same circumstance or not.
I don't know anything about the Artic brand.

I have ArcticShield parka and bibs. They are very warm and also no bulk. Maybe too warm for hunting in the Rockies. I will find out this year. They are somewhat loud but get less loud after some use.

Hello All,
Thanks for the replies. I have decided on the ArcticShield and just will be using it this weekend. I will be sure to report back and let you all know how it performed.

By the way if anyone else is wanting to buy ArcticShields bibs and jacket go to Basspro.com they're having a sale on it. That's where I got mine.

Hey Fellas,

Went out this past weekend and didn't get a chance to use the ArcticShield because of the unusual warm weather for this time of year. But I did get a nice size cow though. It was one heck of hike packing the meet out.

I plan on going out again for the late season so I'll report back then.

Good luck hunting fellas...

I have heard from folks that the Arcticshield are pretty loud, how true is this and do they quiet down over time, if so how long did it take? I stand bowhunt down to the teens and they sound warm as all can be, but I am afraid to buy em if they are loud on movement.

Thanks!!!!!

I have used the MT050 insulated bibs the pass five years for deer and elk hunting in the Rockies when the weather turns cold. The bibs are quite, comfortable, and warm. When the tempuratures are above 32F I wear a pair of the uninsulated pants with the same MT050 material.
