gps?
Who makes a good hunting gps?

RE: gps?
Hustler, i own several gps units, mostly garmin, but recently i purchased a few magellan units. most of the units come with a lot of bells and whistles that you do not need. if you know how to read a map and use the gps in conjunction with it, it will help you a lot. anyways, in my quest to find a simple gps that i can use for hunting, i recently purchased the magellan explorist 200. it only has for viewing screens, one showing satellites, one showing a map, one showing the compass (compass will only work while you are moving, but i only took three steps and it kicked in) and one window showing your location. very simple to use and i would recomment it. they make the 100 (99 bucks), 200 and 300. not sure what the prices are for the other units. i would recommend this unit.

RE: gps?
I have a Garmin Legend and it has been great. It comes with a good map built into it, however you can even download specific hunting area software into your GPS. Great unit!

RE: gps?
I have had much experience with a Garmin GPSMap 76. They work great.

RE: gps?
I just got the Explorist 200 and am still reading the instructions. Seems to be enough for what I want to use it for.

RE: gps?
I have a Garmin etrex venture. It is verey easy to use. The battery lasts a long time, and its waterproof. If I can use it anyone can use it.

RE: gps?
Any GPS will work. The thing is how much you want to spend on it and the kind of functions you think you need.
I personally like the Magellan's but Garmin makes good units too. |
RE: gps?
I have a Garmin GPSMAP 76. Works great, but I do tend to loose the signal in heavy tree cover.

RE: gps?
mdbohunter, i have the same unit. did a backtrack on it the other day, worked great, took me awhile to figure out how to get it off the screen when i was done, this is how it is done:
1. press the menu button. 2. scroll down to preferences 3. hit enter. 4. highlight clear memory. 5. hit enter. 6. you now have 5 choices. a. all track logs b. POI/routes c. routes d. reset defaults (watch this one, it will erase all the changes you made on the unit) e. all hope this helps you in case you need it. |
RE: gps?
I have two Garmin and wouldn't trade them for anything. I have a etrex base model that gets the job done but has no bells and whistles. I also have a rino 120 which is very well equipted. Both are user friendly and very accurate. It's tough to go wrong with anything from garmin.
