fleece as a under layer
is there a difference in using regular fleece to block wind or do you reccomend a certain type like protec, windshear etc. as a layering garment or outside garment. which type would you reccomend the apx line from mossy oak or in your opinion does it really matter

RE: fleece as a under layer
unless the fleece has built in wind blocking\stopper material, Pantagonia makes some, LL Bean etc., I call fleece wind accelerators, it just blows right through and seems to pick up speed. You would need a windstopping layer, either outer or inner, but that gets noisy. Even the windstopper equipped fleece is a little on the noisy side.

RE: fleece as a under layer
I prefer a real nice wind blocker (I use a heavy duty Golf pull over) Plus a fleece underlayer...this is mandatory for warmth...
If you are cold on Stand its nobodies fault but your own because there is no reason to be. |

I agree with Pheasbo, Fleece is great, but you do need a windstop layer. I have a couple fleece hunting jackets with Windstopper and that is a pretty good combo. I like a fleece outer layer because it is the quietest thing I have found. Good luck |
RE: fleece as a under layer
do not wear cotton as an undergarment.:D

RE: fleece as a under layer
1000 weight fleece makes a great under garment. It's lighter and less bulky than standard fleece outerwear. I top it off with windstopper type fleece and I'm good to go.
Don't buy from Patagonia. They are heavily involved in green causes and don't support hunting or motorized ORV recreation in any way. |
RE: fleece as a under layer
I bought the polar fleece from Cabelas and am have been very happy with it as an underlayer. I bought the high priced spec ops fleece jacket, its great underneath, but the wind still goes right through!

RE: fleece as a under layer
I agree - fleece works great IF you have a wind blocking layer over it. Otherwise the wind will chill you every time.

RE: fleece as a under layer
Fleece is a very good under layer. I also like a very thin fleece for an outer layer. Although it does not block wind, and is not used for warmth in this instance, it is very quiet. If it is cold, I like to wear a lined flannel with a fleece layered over it.
