I am interested in purchasing a set of radio's to use while hunting and atv'ing in the Rocky Mountains, but not sure which will give me the best range, clarity, and quietness? Any help would be appreciated!

I have the T7200 and love it. We have used the cheaper Motorola radio's in our group and none measure up to the 7200. I see they just came out with the T7150 which is the same as the 7200 but comes in a two pack, unfortunatly everyone has sold out of them.
Stay away from the Garmin Rino, I bought the 120 last year and the radio sucks!

Be careful what kind you buy. I just got a set of motorola's for father's day ( the ones with the five mile range) turns out that you need a FCC permit to use certain channels. the permit is 80 bucks a year. Out of 22 channels I can only use 8-14 the rest I can't. So be cautious. Vibra call is a must on the radio

I have the motorola spirit gt+. Me and my buddies use them for hunting, fishing, camping, anytime we have a need for them. they work great and are inexpensive. They work great in the mountains.

I have 4 differeent sets of Motorola's. All different model #'s and they have all worked very well. They have limitations as I'm sure you're aware of, but the quality has been very good, and they work well. The latest radios we bought was the Garmin RINO series. Gives you the FRS and GMRS freqs as well as GPS. So far, our testing has proven them to be excellent. It's nice having the GPS feature built in to the radio and being able to see the other radios on the GPS map when separated. Pretty cool!

the 5 mile range radios are the motorola distance dps.they are great.i was informed that it does not matter what channel you use. a license is required.i would be willing to bet you that at least 99% do not have the license.they are not going to bother you for just using them in hunting or camping

Just a note, a $75 license is required to use GMRS channels. I have paid the fee and use these channels. Also, I turn in unlicensed users. [>:] If you are not interested in a run-in with the FCC, stick to the free FRS channels. THey get good range, as good as the GMRS from my testing.

i have to laugh here.you turn in users?i bet the fcc is thrilled about that.for you info i called the fcc.they said a recreational user does not need the license,they stated that it is meant for those who use the radios regularly.

I also suspected that they didnt really inforce it. the way i see it where i would use the gmrs channels and the range of the them very few would even know.

And if you did pick up my transmissions you would more than likely be where you weren't supposed to be.

but i think i might call them also so i can hear it from their mouths and i would really like to have that in writing. i intend to get some more powerful radios this fall to extend my range.
