What ATV ?

I'm interested in buying an ATV but don't know much about good from bad. Know I want a utility atv for hunting and to carry equipment. I go about 230 lbs. I want a power range suitable without overkill in size and power, but don't want to be pushing it up terrains either. Any good web sites for info ? Also want to research used atv's and comparisons. Which manufacturers are most reliable ? Input is appreciated. Thanks and good hunting.

Try www.atvnation.com www.atvconnection.com and www.atvtime.com .I would suggest a 4x4 machine in the 350cc to 500cc for most uses.

Unless your doing excessive hauling or have a good sized ranch operation, etc I think anything over 500 is not required. I would look to the 350-500 for hunting/general purposes use and it should be more than enough speed and power for you. Personally I think Honda make the best ATV but I don't like the fact they have done away (on some models) with the pull start. It maybe moot to you, but I can't tell you how many times a battery has failed, lights left on by mistake or froze that electric start was not an option...to me it is essential it must have a way to start other than via battery/key. I haven't looked at new ones so for all I know this maybe the trend for a lot of models now!

I currently have 2; a Polaris Sportsman 400 and Honda Foreman 400, both have been good but the foreman has cost less to run, is better on fuel and IMO a better bike from my usage point.

Skeeter-Which honda models are you saying do not have pull starts?I know that the 350,400,450, 500 and 650 hondas all have pull starts. The polaris 600 and 700 however do not have pull starts.

RE: What ATV ?

Stubblejumper it is 03' 400 ES and I saw at the sportsman show 450ES that I couldn't find a pull start on as well a month or so ago. Like I said I haven't been nor in the market for a newer ATV, so not 100% sure what quads come with and which ones don't. The first one the owner said no way to manually pull her over and as to the second I searched for a pull start and didn't find one...if it was then Honda has gone to great lengths to hide the pull start from the operator.

There is no 400es model but the 400at and 450es do have recoil starts. As with most of the hondas ,you have to pop off the side cover to access the recoil starts.

RE: What ATV ?

Ok I was not aware of the need to remove any covers to find the recoil. I merely mentioned this as something one might consider and like I mentioned I haven't been in the market so my knowledge was 100% for sure on what each model may offer.
