Warm Gloves
 

I am looking for a really warm pair of huntung gloves. My hands froze last elk season. Any input would be appreciated.

There is no such thing as really warm gloves. The trouble with really warm gloves is that they would be so bulky that you'd have to take them off to use your hands. You'd be better off with a pair of lighter gloves inside a pair of chopper mittens or one of those muffs. You could even slip a handwarmer packet into them if necessary. Slip your trigger hand mitten off when you have to. The glove will keep your hand warm long enough to shoot.

wingbone hit it on the head, THERE ARE NO WARM GLOVES. i normally wear mittins to walk in and out, but while i am sitting, i take the mitten off my shooting hand and put my hand in a pocket with a handwarmer or i use the muff he is talking about. i have tried just about everyglove made and none of them work when you are sitting in cold weather for any lengh of time.

Check out the Arctic Shield gloves. I bought a pair of gloves and boot insulators at Bass Pro Shops during their fall promotion. There was a guy there demostrating the boot insulators by packing people's feet in dry ice. He explained that the material inside is not an insulator that slows heat loss, but a heat reflective that reflects your body heat back toward your skin. Basically, the same idea as space blankets.

I wear those wool gloves that have the fingers cut out and mittens that fold over them. They sell them everywhere walmart cabelas. Thinsulate makes them and they sell for about ten bucks. I buy the thick ones. I've been totally soaked in the snow and my fingers chilly but never absolutley frozen. I usually carry a couple dry sets one in my little camelback and one in the saddlebags inside ziplock baggies.

I bought a pair of the GloMitts (the Mittens that fold over into fingerless gloves) from Cabelas and they worked pretty good. When the weather isnt real cold, I use a pair of the Mechanix Gloves. They arent insulated, but provide enough protection especially if you are on the move. They also provide a good grip.

I do agree with what the others have said. When it is really cold, there are no warm gloves!

I wear the wooly cutoffs with the fold over mitten portion as well. If it is cool I wear a pair of polyproplene liners gloves under neath and if it is down right cold I add "Hot Hands" hand warmers. I use this for ice fishing as well with no problems and yes it can be pretty chilly up here in hunting and ice fishing season.

gloves made of wool are the warmest in my opinion. plus they arent bulky.

I don't wear gloves anymore......I use an Icebreaker muff. This thing actually makes my hands sweat on stand!

Thanks for all the ideas. I think I will try the wool gloves that have the flip over mittens. I seem to have good luck with the wool.
