Hi im 13 years old do any of you know if the model 710 is good and if a 270 caliber would be good for me.

Not very many people like the 710, myself included. I don't like guns that are made of plastic.

I got a Remington 710...it will kill deer just like any other gun...it's light and fairly accurate...for the money it's a fairly good gun.

For a 13 year old I'd say that 270 is a good caliber...if you wanna go lighter try 243 but I don't think that the 710 comes in 243. If someone you know has one ask them to shoot it and see if you like it. Good luck.

I think the 270 will be a good caliber for your first gun. Learn how to shoot
it and get used to it. Make sure you tell your Dad thanks!:D

No, the 710 is not "just fine". It is just JUNK. Most gunshops around here won't even sell them. If you want an economical rifle look at Savage or Howa. As for the 270 Win cartridge, it is about all you will ever need unless you want to hunt dangerous game.

I have a 710 in 30-06. To have one to hunt with in the rain and just throw in the truck, it's ok. I paid about $260 for the package with scope, etc.
I've heard a lot of gripes about the 710 but mine works well. No bolt or trigger problems. It ain't the best in the cabinet.

My nephew hunts with my Savage 110 in .270, he's 14 and it suites him well.

I have a 710 for hunting and I really like it. For the price it is a really good gun. It accomplished its purpose;being a good actually ecxellent hunting gun. I don't have to bring my model 700 in the snow or rain. The 710 is a pretty accurate gun. It is sorta ugly, but that is not all that matters. I want a gun that I can take into the woods and not worry about taking it through a briar patch. The most important thing about a hunting gun in my opinion is accuracy. I think that getting a humane kill every time is essential. The 710 seems to meet this profile. I love the .270 caliber. It is all I will use on deer.;) Good luck.

I looked at one before buying my Savage. It felt rickety to me. After working the bolt a few times I never wanted to see one again.

I must admit, I never was a Remington fan, but the 710 and 597 have insured that I'll NEVER be a Remington fan!
Savage and Winchesters are great guns, dollar for dollar!

The model 710 does what I need it to. Nothin' fancy, but a deer isn't gonna tell the difference if its a $300 gun or $1,000. But I'll say this, if you can afford it, try to get a Rem model 700.

I agree if you can afford it get the 700 if not take a look at the Savage. I personally wouldn't have a 710 and as far as throwing my rifle in the truck i do that with my 700's and don't think twice about. I don't abuse my guns but i didn't buy them to look pretty i bought them as a tool to hunt with so i don't mind if they get a little scratched and scuffed .
