Are you ferrying over or flying? If ferrying, then those Coleman X-treme's give you plenty of bang for your buck. I see absolutely no reason whatsoever to go spend 400-600 bucks on a dang cooler. Follow Oltimr's advise about chilling the meat first. But here is a little hint for you. Dry Ice! Pack your cooler leaving about 3 inches on top, cover with a sheet of butcher paper, put the dry ice on top, close lid, then wrap a couple of wraps around the lid with saran wrap to make 100% sure of an air seal. That dry ice will stay cold as long as there is no air to dissipate it into gas form. More than enough time to transport meat home. I've done this method for a lot of years hauling hog meat back from Texas and such, even used it with those little cheap foam coolers you can get at the bait shops (hit 3 more hogs than I had enough cooler space for that year) though I admit I did wrap the whole coolers in saran wrap to be sure of air seal with those little foam ones.

Those may be very good coolers, but I think it's silly to spend that kind of money on cooler.

There is no reason to spend that much money for a cooler unless you have more money than you need or want to show off. I paid $50.00 for my 150 qt Coleman Extreme on sale and it will keep frozen things frozen and cold things cold for days if you pack it correctly.

The absolute only time I would even dream of buying one of those Yeti's or Pelican's is if I was packing in and out through extreme terrain and I honestly feel those Coleman X-Tremes would still be up to the task. I see no real need for a cooler that can survive falling down a mountainside. It's a gimmic to sell over priced un-needed extremes.

A friend of mine went moose hunting, he took his pickup with him too. He put a house freezer in the bed of his truck and wrapped it in a tarp so it would not get wet if it rained. He killed a moose, butchered it and put it in the freezer and plugged it in somewhere and froze the meat. When he stopped for the night on the way back to MO he would stretch our an extension cord and plug it in again. Worked great and did not cost him an arm and a leg for coolers. Don't know how big the freezer was but it was not one of the giant sized ones.
I have a 120 qt. Coleman cooler for deer, it works great. I think the weak point on them is the lid hinges. They could easily get damaged but appear to be replaceable.
Good luck on the hunt!!

I am not an A/C repairman but isnt that bad for your fridge/freezer to be transported laying down or ran after moving it? Something about the compressor, Just curious as a damaged freezer might be a littler more expensive then a cooler.

It was probably a chest freezer that was upright.

Both igloo and coleman are good coolers, and good for 90% of users, for 98% of occasions. Can't go wrong with them.

For the rest, if you don't like Yeti or their price, that is fine, but I wouldn't go off on the product because it doesn't fit your needs. It works for many others, I would also suggest for anyone who is looking to take a look at RTIC coolers, pretty much a yeti for half the price, they just don't come in the larger sizes.
