Summit Classic slips on bark
 

Hey guys,

I have a Summit Classic climber. Last night, I was climbing a tree with rough bark, and it was dry. However, the bark was rather slick and the teeth of the climber sometimes were not getting a good bite into the bark.

I slipped down the tree a couple of times. Good thing that I always climb with my safety strap....

Has anyone filed down the teeth on their climber' s teeth in order for it to get a better bite into the tree bark?

Will, is it made on the same design as their XLS? I have one of those and never had a problem.

Hi Strut,

I can' t imagine that the " teeth" that contact the bark on the tree would be any different from your XLS. The chassis of the climbers is about the same. I haven' t had much problem with it until now. I weigh 222 lbs and have plenty of weight to help the climber dig it' s teeth into the tree' s bark. However, on some " slick" feeling bark, it seems to not get a good " bite" sometimes.

I' m not planning to file off a great deal of metal from the tips of the " teeth" . Just enough to get them to dig in a little easier. Just want to know if anyone else out there has done the same, with any advice to boot....

I have saw on their video that they were filing the powder coat off the teeth, said that sometimes it would cause a squeaking sound as you went up the tree, so I don' t suppose it would hurt anything to file them just a bit, not enough to weaking them but maybe a little sharper point.
