External Frames
What external frames are people using for packing out deer/elk? Looking for something that will be comfortable for hiking a couple of miles.

Cabela's Alaskan frame. Cheap but good.
Pack bag from 1st Pack Out. Again not expensive but tough and easy to use. You don't need to spend big bucks on this stuff. |
I use the Cabela's Alaskan as well. Looked at a friend's Bull-Pac and though it's built like you could probably haul an entire elk out on one, they're spendy and probably handle more weight than I can physically carry very far. The Alaskan easily handles what I'm capable of carrying.

Yep, you can quickly reach the point at which you can pay more and not really get more.
If you are like me and have more money than you know what to do with that's fine, but for the average guy......well.......:) |
I have used the Cabela's frame with a large bag on it for years. It is a good, solid frame that can take the weight of carrying a spike camp in and carrying elk meat out. My back sweats much less with an external frame than when I use an internal frame pack.

Like Uncle said.... Carts are useless in rough steep country, where the best hunting is out here. |
