predator calls for deer

What is anybody' s experience with predator calls for bringing in curious whitetails? Do they work when grunts and bleats don' t? Which kinds -- rodent cry, cottontail distress? -- and which brands? And do you really want to have a long and a short range call, or will the long range do fine?

Anytime I have blown a rabbit distress call and there were whitetails around the flags came up and they left in a hurry. I have had mule deer come and look but never a whitetail.

I' ve had does coming running into distress calls...early in the season, might be maternal, they think the young of the year are in trouble....a fawn in distress call or similar distress might get does in early on in the season.
