Great flashlights
Guys, we all know that with their birght white light, the new LED flashlights are great for tracking/blood trailing deer after dark. Well Wally world is selling Coleman flashlights for $25 and $30 with 110 and 144 lumen ratings respectfully. I got a 110 lumen one and it is incredible. Even in full sunlight you can cast a beam at your feet. It literally turns the night to sunlight brightness whereever shined. A great itme to have in your pack or a gify for a fellow hunter. These are a great light for the money when you consider you would be paying at least double that for a Streamlight.

I would suggest looking at Thru-nite flashlights. Tiny and push out more light than anything it's size. Even more than larger lights twice the size and run on AA or the AAA version. $25 for the both of them right now.

My buddy has a cyclopes that he likes. Wal-Mart has a new Coleman 500 lumens for $49.00 I saw the other day. I may have to pick that one up and give it a try.

Reminded to check all flashlights
Checked all my third and fourth generation flashlights and a couple of flashlights and batteries not used in a year, still light.
Those fifty dollar flashlights will have to wait. |
Flashlights
Hey guys just like anything else there is a lot of mark up in flashlights, I would try to look around and check out several different sites, all will probably have different prices. Streamlights are nice but most of them do cost a lot, dont hesitate to ask for pricing breaks or other discounts as most online retailers and even retailers for that matter may do something for you.

I know, yearn and almost every year almost purchase the "better light".
But , I still can't see (justify) replacing the old AA mag light. |
Check out flea bay. I bought a Cree 1300 lumens and charger for less than $25. It uses li-on 18650 batteries and will light up the night!
|
Lowes has a 500 lumen Kobalt LED flashlight for $69.95. Uses 2 123 Batteries. Well made metal case and has 2 light levels. Used all season and changed batteries once. Great bargain.
|
Still using an $8 2AA MagLite. No problems for the last 20 yrs or so.
Sure there are "better" out there. But why spend the extra money for light. |
Good to review flashlights every now and then
As long as I can see with my third and fourth generation flashlights, it provides enough light to see where I'm going.
Worked when I first used them; still work. It's terrible when you get older. You just remember using a big flashlight with D batteries, and appreciate the smallness of the flashlights you use. You're better than you were; not needed is the best of the best. |
I guess Im the only that uses an expensive flashlight... I have a Streamlight Stinger DS. Im a mechanic so I use one at work, which I needed a rechargeable bright light, considering I basically use it 8 hrs a day.
It worked so well I have one I keep in my truck for hunting and one at the house as well. Love them, even if they are $175. (Its 350 lumens, if anyone cares.) |
I have an everready headlamp with white and red LEDs I use for picking up my bright eyes when walking to or from stands, and I always have a aa mini mag on my belt, whether I'm working or I'm blood trailing it works for me, its cheap and reliable, and if I lose it or what not I'm out $9.

These are great little lights. I bought 15 of them on E-Bay for $5.99 ea. 1 for hunting, truck, car, boat, garage, nightstand, gifts. One double A battery and boy, is it bright!

I carry a Surefire E2L Outfdoorsman when I am hunting for two reasons. The first reason is that the batteries last a long time, and the second reason is that it was a gift.
It is a very nice flashlight, but I don't think it is worth the high price. There are many flashlights available that are just as tough, and cost a whole lot less. |
Thanks for the post
After my review of flashlights, a good reminder that flashlights are getting more powerful. And they will be used by some hunters early in the morning.
Another good reminder to stay in shape and getting in deep on opening day in one state, which I missed the last few years. It has a lot of hunters and I shouldn't be surprised at the light display on opening morning in the pre-dawn hours. The deer will know something is up. And I remember as a newbie long ago, carrying this big old flashlight with a bunch of D batteries. Times have surely changed. |
Finally, I found a model that deserves the title of "best hat clip flashlight." It's the GSM Cyclops Orion Pro LED Hat Clip Light. The difference is that is attaches above the brim, not below it. This reduces time spent adjusting the light because it's blocking field of view.

I have a bunch of maglights from single AA to 4 d's. I also have 250 watt plug ins and a monster that if I remember correctly is 1900 lumens. I like the maglights. They plain work.
|
Guess it'll be important...
for some to be seen at 300 yards by the deer.

Im actually a flashlight salesman along with other products. I am currently selling the top of the line flashlight. The TrustFire Cree 12x T-6 13000 Lumens(thirteen thousand lumens!) flashlight Its perfect for spotlight hunting. It can achieve over 600 yards! you can see the flashlight at my amazon store. http://amazon.com/seller/luxeaudio

Lowes also has one that runs on two C batteries and lasts all year. Like the first one in this post turns night into day and the best tracking light I have seen. I left it on by accident and it was still burning after more than 24 hours.
