Best Boots For Fall/Winter Season
Hey everyone, I have read some other threads on boots and what not but hasnt got me anywhere.... I am looking for a good pair of boots without spending too much money. I want a pair that is warm, somewhat lightweight, prefer rubber. I always have a problem with my feet sweating even if I put new socks on while on stand which I hate to do due to scent and pain in the butt. Any help would be great, looking for a good deal.

ya I was wondering same. I had Field and Stream Rubber Boots 800gram Thinsulate lasted me 6 seasons. Only thing I didnt like is if you didnt tuck in your pants into the boots they would slap around on your calves because they was no drawstring for top.
I was going to buy the Irish Setter 17" RutMaster but they have bad reviews on cabelas. They look pretty solid. |
I tried the Muck brand Neoprene tops and rubber bottoms and really like them. I can wear them all day as I judge pointing dogs. So in wet grass days they have been great. I like the easy on and off and some Lacrosse brands fit my ankle so snug I can not get them off easily. I struggle.
I even bought a second ankle cut brand to knock around the cabin on cold wet days. JW |
Don't overlook anti perspirant for your feet. I use a liberal coating of arrid extra dry rollon and let my feet drybefore putting on the socks. Helps keep my feet warm regardless of boot used. take care.

Lacrosse Alpha-burly 1000 gram.

3 seasons ago, I purchased the redhead bone-dry bighorns from bass pro. I haven't been disappointed. They are waterproof, warm, and breathable. I thought they were a heck of a deal at $60 considering I've spent hundreds on other brands (rocky) with the same to lesser results. With that said, when it comes to warmth, it's all in the socks. Make sure to get 100% wool. Wool will not retain moisture like cotton and other materials. Expect to pay about $15 per pair for good ones.
Hope this helps. |
danner pronghorns..best boot I've ever used

I was bought redhead bone dry bighorns and this one is wonderful and comfortable.you can buy this one and its price is also reasonable.

The sizes on the redheads are off. If you order online or catalog, I would suggest you order a full size bigger.

lightweight prefer rubber without spending too much money
looking for a good pair of boots
lightweight prefer rubber without spending too much money Don't look for a hunter; he knows whatever boots he has Even a salesman wouldn't know; he might just know the shoes his store sells. You'd need someone who is in the business of buying closeouts and discontinueds. Or a computer searcher. Fat chance finding one of them. It takes time to search on a computer. Such as the Search ---closeout-hunting boot- rubber-insulated. How much time do you have to save $100. And say, you don't wear clodhoppers that would fit Big Foot, do you ? And would you know how marginally better the best shoes are from the ones that aren't so -light, the best of rubber, and cost less money. Newbies!!!!!! |
Yeah, that's it. Get some boots that you search and find on the Internet. Forget the guys with real outdoor experience. Name the brand in hunting boots, I've tried them. You don't have to spend a fortune to stay warm and dry.

I don't really prefer a certain brand but I just make sure they are GoreTex and WaterProof. Those are a MUST for me. I hunt whitetail in the MidWest so it gets pretty cold. Plus I predator hunt in the dead of winter so I need a good reliable pair of boots.
I got lucky and received a boot voucher from my employer (tugboat/welding company) for a discounted pair of RedWing boots so I went and checked them out. I have had the same pair for three years with no complaints at all. They're leather, 5 inch, steel toe, goretex and waterproof. I have only had to get them resoled once over the three year period too. They come with a lifetime warranty on the stitching and free laces for life of your boot. Don't get me wrong, I still paid $300 with the $200 discount but they are great comfortable boots that I actually don't mind wearing to work and out in the woods. hope this helped ya out |
Another vote for muck brand, I have been wearing the muckmasters for 2 seasons and they are warm and comfortable. I paid $95 my pair.

Mucks here as well. I have lots of boots to choose from from the dreaded sweaty feet troubles. While I still use my pac boots when really cold, I find myself wearing my mucks more often then not.

You are concerned about your feet sweating and you want a rubber boot ??? Rubber does not breath. Neoporene does, but only a tad better. I will use a neoprene/rubber Irish Setter brand boot when I hunt in this particularly water logged swamp. Even hip boots when the water is up 2-3 feet deep .... but man at the foot sweat?
I have found the Danner Pronghorn with 400 gr. Thinsulate insulation to be a good boot that will not break the bank. It is warm enough for most of the colder weather down this way. Water proof and breathes nicely. With good care you can get several years out of a pair. I hunt a lot and am on my 4th season with these boots ... and they look great still ... just scuffed up from normalm wear. |
I bought a set of Irish Setter on clearance at Bass Pro for $60 and Im really impressed with them. Gore-tex and waterproof. I have more of an issue with my feet getting cold than sweating, so I wear a pair or thermal socks and have never had cold feet with these boots.
