I'll bet you kick an anthill every chance you get
I'll bite. I'd say a 25 to 30 caliber bolt-action with a 2x-7x scope. Your choice of make and model rifle and scope, the best you can afford.

If you'll never have to shoot one at 200 yards, I would pick a 30-30. If you want one for that range and greater, or if you want one gun for many uses, I like the 30-06, but you will hear many different answers on here. I personally have hunted with 30-30, 30-06, 270, 260, 7mm-08, 7mm Mag, 6.5 Creedmoor, and 12 guage shotgun, and they all seem fine to me. Pick what you like and what you shoot well.

When I was a kid, just starting out deer hunting, the best deer rifle was the one that I could afford to buy. Miss those days.

I've never shot a deer at much over 100. Some guys almost never shoot less than 100. The best gun for me isn't the best for others.

Pick a gun that suits your style of hunting, and one that fits you, and one that you can shoot well in hunting situations. If you do that, the deer won't care one way or the other.

The one that hits the deer where you want it to. Out here where longer shots are the norm, I like my 7mm mag.
