Pick a gun that suits your style of hunting, and one that fits you, and one that you can shoot well in hunting situations. If you do that, the deer won't care one way or the other.
Well said!!

I use a 30-30 Marlin because most of my hunting is in thick stuff and most my shots are kept within a hundred yards in this stuff. Once in a while a longer shot maybe needed so I compensate for it by lifting up a little. But that would be a rare thing..

I use both a '94 Winc. 30-30 and a Mark X Mauser in 30-06, depending on what kind of country I am hunting in. If I am on foot, or on an ATV, I use the 30-30. It is light, fast and accurate with a Lyman peep sight. If I am on a stand or in open country I usually go with the 30-06, it has a 1.5-4.5 Bushnell scope and is very accurate out to as far as I want to shoot. I have also used 12 gauge slugs, 243 Winc. I shot one with a 9X57 Mauser, not too many can say that. Nowdays, the 30-30 and the 30-06 seems to cover it all. If I had to only use one gun, it would be the 30-06.

The "Norb" stole my thunder! He is 100% on the money in my book.

Running the answer through my mind for just a few seconds ... in the group that I have hunted with these past 20+ years the "deer guns" are: 30-30 Win. 94, .444 Marlin. Guide, Styer Pro-Hunter-s (two 308 Win. and 1 - 7mm/08), Ruger 77's (270 Win., 300 Win. Mag. , 2-30.06n Spr.), 1 - Browning BAR in 30.06 Spr., an 80 year old Mauser in 6.5x55SE, a Pre-1964 Model 70 in 257 Roberts, Remington 700's ( 8 mm Rem Mag., 280 Rem., 3 in 30.06 Spr., 2-243 Win. and 1-in 338 WIn. Mag.), a Tikka in 7 mm Rem. Mag., one guy uses a TC Contended in 260 Rem. , and last but not least one guy uses a Rem. 870 Wingmaster 12 ga. with a rifled barrel and sabot ammo. All fo these kill deer.

As for me .... what fits my style and my body ... and the one I "like" best is a Styer Pro. Hunter "Mountain" in 308 Win.

The one You can shoot the best and most accurate....and is legal in Your State! :D ;)

I love using my Browning A-Bolt Hunter in the .243 Caliber, light recoil, very accurate and I'm comfortable with it and know my limitations.Next "Favorite" and most fun Rifle is the Savage Model 11 GCNS 7mm-08,bolt-action Rifle...again easy on recoil and very accurate.

My least Favorite...but it does the Job,my Remington 30-06 Bolt-action Rifle...how I turned it into a better more favorite Rifle?I bought the Remington Managed Recoil Shells and the recoil is comparable to my .243 Rifle! :)

My first deer rifle

Was also one I could afford. And the caliber was one the old timers used successfully on deer. All's I had to do was become accurate shooting the rifle.

Finally, there is no one deer caliber. There must be over fifteen successful deer calibers and who argues with success.

Depends on area I am hunting in. Heavy wooded area with shots under 75 yds-100yds. go a with .30-30 model 94 Winchester. Power lines or fields then would be Ruger m-77 in 30-06. Last couple seasons been taken the .50 cal muzzleloader for both. I dont think there is one caliber gun for deer. Everybody has they different thoughts on which gun is best for deer.

We're not allowed to use any Guns/Rifles that shine/emit a red laser light. :(
