Best thermal underwear???

alright so for this year i was wondering if i should invest in an actual good pair of long johns like under armor cold gear, but they are like 60 bucks each i was wondering if there is something else out there that is just as good or better. I do a lot of hunting in the Adirondack mountains so it gets pretty cold. Thanks

I will never wear synthetic long underwear again after trying merino wool long johns - it's ultra comfortable, warm when wet, and simply doesn't stink - even after wearing it for a week straight every day (which I will be doing next week again). I have a bunch of different Minus 33 long underwear, which I think is a great value, but any will do. I just noticed this year that even Costco is carrying merino wool & it looks to be pretty decent.

Yeah I love merino wool. Sorry I can't remember the exact brand though.

When the season is over

I'll finally break down on new outdoor hunting underwear. Maybe some will be on sale. It'll break my heart to pay a lot for unseen underwear. But the winter always sees it.

The technology has improved too much. But wool is still with us. Somehow I survived the snow bound -10 degree hunting weather with the old white cotton insulated underwear. Of course, I did wear wool. A pair of wool pants and a Shetland wool sweater, both of the sweaters I still have.

My first line of defense today is polypropylene insulated wear, and they still fit, since I'm back to my 20 and 40 year ago weight.
But time still moves on.

I have several pairs of poly long johns I got from Sam's Club for less than $20 for the set (shirt & pants). I don't see Under Armor being worth $150 a set. I think if I was going to spend that kind of money, I would go with wool.

PolarTec is great stuff and was glad I had it while seaduck hunting in -6 temps.

The brand of merino wool I have is called omni- wool. I think it's about $45 a pair.

I use under armor but it is expensive. I am also a coach so one of my vendors gave me a set that is the only reason I have it. It does do a great job of keeping you warm though.
