Thermacell - Repellant Pads
#1

I like to tinker with things, usually ends up costing me more money than if I go buy the mfg product but here goes:
Anyone recharge their Thermacell repellant pads? Been searching the Net and several guys are using Permanone/Permethrin.
I was thinking about citronella but that stuff stinks. Don't like the idea of cooking a pesticide soaked pad under my feet up in a tree
.
Others have said the coleman mosquito coils work good but those are a solid and hard to keep on the burner plate.
Any experimenters out there that have had success and are not deformed, brain damaged or dead yet?

I've tried to use the mosquito coil things. they have the same active ingrediant as the pads. Just break them up into piece and fit them into the little grates on the front of the thermacell. I use a stocking or pantyhose over that to keep them in place. Be carefull because if you leave it on to long it might melt the stocking lol.
I usualy just buy the pads from thermacell and cut them in half and refill the butane cartidges myself by taking the check valve out and refilling with butane from the dollar store. This make them last twice as long.
I've heard you can soak the old pads in deet or OFF brand repellant but havn't tried it.
