Best climbing stand for a fatboy??

I' m in the market for a stand and am pretty new to the market. I weigh about 230 lbs. and would like to find a climbing stand that' s light, easy to set up, and will support my oversized rear-end.

Any suggestions??

I am about 6' 2" and 240 I have a Summit an O' l man and have used an API. All three will work well. Of the three I would have to pick the Summit Viper.

I' m 6' , 235 lbs and use the Lone Wolf Alpha Sit & Climb. It is lightweight, easy to set up, and has a 350 lb. weight capacity. I have also used Summits and API' s with excellent results as well.

Buckshot stands are the most comfortable climbers I' ve ever been in. Check out the Bigshot Magnum. They' re a little more expensive than the others but I don' t think you' d be disapointed.

I tired a new climber out this weekend but have been unable to locate a dealer on the web.
It was a " Quality Whitetail Products" ( or something like that ) climber made a firm out of Columbia, SC. It was easy to use and very light. It was also very sturdy, Im 250 and have never used a climber before but I plan to get one if I can locate a dealer. Any info would be appreciated. I dont like the Summit stands because i havent been able to find one that faces the tree, i dont bow hunt so i would like one facing tree. This one also packs up tight but if your not tall i wouldnt recommend it because as light as it is it is still a little long and may drag when carrying if your not over 6 ft depending on how you carry it.

I am 6' and used to weigh in at 240#. I have a Loggy Bayou stand, model Loggy Lite. It weighs a whopping 11 pounds! Very secure and stable. Great for when you have to get way back in, off the beaten path.

Summit goliath is easy to climb with, easy to sit in, and is rated for 350 pounds. I have one and really like it. I' m 290 lbs.

When you weigh all factors involved, weight - cost - comfort - safety - noise - and ease of set-up the Summit wins hands down for me.The new ones even fold flat for easier packing and mine is 19# and supports 300#.No pins or clips to drop and no clanks and thunks when carrying down thru the woods.

A couple months ago I bought a Gunslinger. They have a 250 pound and 350 pound model. You can write or call for a free brochure.I' ve only tried it on a couple of my trees but seems to be strong, holds the tree well, easy to climb with.I bought the 350 weight capacity. They do come unpainted.I weigh 260 pounds and it gives me plenty of room.

I HAVE TRACKED DOWN THE # FOR THE " TROPH WHITETAIL" CLIMBER AND THEY ARE NO LONGER IN BUSINESS.

BUT I DID FIND THE SAME STAND AVAILABLE FROM ANOTHER DEALER. ITS UNDER A DIFFERENT NAME BUT IS A SPITTING IMAGE. EASILY THE MOST STRUDY STAND MADE AND THICK PADS RATHER THAN MESH SEATS, YOU CAN SIT IN THIS SUCKER ALL DAY, AND YOU CAN GET COMFORTABLE WITHOUT FALLING OUT OF IT. ONLY DRAWBACK IS ITS A LITTLE HEAVY 22-27LBS DEPENDING ON THE MODEL, AND I GOT A FEELING ITS GOING TO BE A LITTLE PRICEY. I DONT HAVE PICTURE I CAN POST, DEALER HAD TO MAIL ME ONE, BUT I CAN GIVE YOU THEIR CONTACT INFO. IF YOU DONT MIND SPENDING AROUND $250 ,AND YOUR IN GOOD ENOUGH SHAPE TO CARRY IT, YOU PROBABLY WANT TO LOOK AT THIS ONE.

IF YOUR INTERESTED LET ME KNOW AND ILL FORWARD THE DEALERS INFO.

I' m with VAhuntr. Lone Wolf makes the best stands out there. I have tried Loggy Bayou, Summit and API. They are light weight, super quiet, and fold to about 3 inches flat for back packing.

Summit Goliath hands down, much easier to hook up to the tree and very stable, no pins or bolts to have to hit the hole on before daylight, the cables are rigid and don' t flop around like an API.

RE: Best climbing stand for a fatboy??

I use to work for Warren & Sweat Mfg. in their research and development department. I' m pretty sure ALL treestand manufacturers use the same " weight testing" as we did. After we designed all of our products, we would add steel weights to the climber while it was hanging. We would load the stand to it' s maximum capacity (until the metal would start bending and giving out). After that test was complete, we would divide that weight in half and that is what we put as our maximum weight capacity. Example...if our stand was only " reconmended" for 300 pounds, the stand actually withstood 600 pounds.

Now I' m not telling you to exceed a weight limit on any stand. Always go by what the manufactuner suggest. All I' m saying is if your a few pounds over the limit, don' t sweat it. By the way, I' m 6' 3" and 280 pounds and I have used approximately 80% of the climbers on the market at one time or another. My stand of choice is the Predator II. It' s a little heavy to carry but to me it' s the most comfortable. Keep in mind I have been using it for the last 5 years. So I am not up to date on the newest stands.

CamoCop,

Never heard of that stand before. Do you have any pics or a web address?

Go for the lone wolf sit and climb unless you don' t mind the smaller seat of the alpha climber. They' re cast aluminum and that means 100% silent. They bite on everything, support like 350#, are easy to set up with simple cam buckles, fold to like 3 inches, and are only like 16#. There is no flex even way out on the end and there is a bult in bow holder and utility hooks. I' m completly impressed and satisfied with mine. Definitly recomended.

Where do you find these lone wolfs?

RE: Best climbing stand for a fatboy??

www.lonewolfstands.com I got mine from the local shop. They had ' em for 289.99. Gander mountian doesn' t carry them, but Cabelas does and Bass Pro might. But there you' ll pay 299.99 plus s&h. I would say check your local shop' s and see if they could order one of if they would consider carrying the line. Thier hang on' s and climbing sticks are out of this world too.
