Summit all the way. I had a api climber about 6 years ago and the summit is a MUCH better design (faster to set up and more stable when climbing) and WAY lighter. If u are under 6 foot a viper would b good. If u are fat(like me) or tall go with goliath. Ive used both and love them. Also, dont b an idiot! Wear your harness the whole time!!

I'd pick the Summit anyday. I use a Viper myself. I have tried Lone Wolf, API, and feel that the Viper is best for me. I'm 6' tall and weigh 235 lbs, and the Viper is fine for me. The Goliath or the Titan would obviously offer more room but I've found I don't need it.

I've bought a few over the years and come to the conclusion that a combination of tops and bottoms is best. One thing I don't want is a base that ins't adjustable easily. I use a North star base (not sold any more) and a summit cobra or lone wolf hand climber top. The NS base is roomy, light, and easily adjustable along with an ability to be used on large trees. Just a squeeze of my hand on the lock with a lift of the base cinches up the belt.

Pretty sure using the LW hand climber has brought the weight down below 14 or close to it. the new 2010 180 max has the titan floor, it said it was 25 pds. i weighted both the titan/180 max and both were 25 pds. i put the MOLLE 11 on my 180/titan and it does not matter if it is 21 or 25. but 21 pd does feel lighter b.so 17 pd will feel even nicer. does it matter to me, NO WITH MOLLE 11 I CAN WALK MILE WITH NO PROBLEMS.without MOLLE 11,yes i agree you will feel difference from 17 pds to 21 pds but 1 pd difference, NO |
