Is it bad to drive a 4x4 atv on pavement?
 

I have heard that it is. is this a myth?

It's roughest on the offroad tires, other than that it might as well be a go kart.

The low air pressure or flotation type tires are a handful on hard surface roads. Slow speeds are manageable, but when you get too much speed they really get squirrelly and near impossible to control. Hard surfaces will also eat up a set of lug tires in very short order.

Yes, it is bad if you have offroad tyres on your Quad but if you have normal tyres on it you should be fine

Pickups yes...Quads not so much.

Quads are light enough that the tires will slip before it causes trouble for the differential. In a pickup, if you use 4wd on pavement, the tires don't slip as easily and it puts incredible stress on the transfer case.

I have a Bombardier that is going on 8yrs old. It is full time 4wd. I ride it on pavement from time to time...with no problems to the bike. It does chew the hell out of the front tires, though.

I know it plays Hell on the tires.Other then that I don't think it would hurt it doing it once in awhile. I see these Honda shops(and others) that park them out front and bring them back in at night driving across the asphalt parking lots.When I take ours out of the garage I have to go on a concrete driveway.I don't make any sharp turns until I'm on the grass.
