Looking for GPS information
I don't know much about them.My hunting partner has one and I saw how his worked. He programed in where the stands were and the huge oak trees. He could find them quickly, while it took me a long time to find the oak trees. They are the only oaks in the area that produce and I usually stumble around till I find them.
He lives in a different state,so I only hunt with him for a few days during the season. I would like to get a GPS for 200 or less.It would be nice if I could program the topo of the area also.Any ideas? Thanks |
Research Garmin - I own several and drop in topo maps all the time. I am self taught and found it easy.
Now it is a bit more but I find it hard to beat the Garmin Rino 350 chx. With this unit I have a GPS - color screen, can download all sort of maps - Walkie talkie 5 watts which can talk to any other brand walkie talkie - and instant National weather no matter what part of the USA I am in. Comes with rechargable battery pack. If your bud has a Rino and when talkining to him you can see his location on your handheld map. The new Garmin Topo 100 K once loaded in your computer - you can download your used map with your tracks and overlay it on Google Earth. Con, You do need to buy a micro chip and I bought the Kingston brand 2G chip. That did not come with the unit. But 2G you can put in the whole 100K program. JW |
Thanks for the information JW.The Rino 110 sells for 170 at Cabela's.Is the 110 good enough?Where would I find the Kingston 2G micro chip?
I'm not sure of the brand my buddy uses.I give him a call. I'm 53 and have been hunting since I was 12.For some reason I have trouble finding those oaks in that area.I've been hunting it for 5 years now.Alot of the area is very thick, that's the only reason I can think of. I think a GPS would come in very handy. You could mark deer sign and anything else of interest. I guess I'll figure out what you meant when you say you drop topo's in all the time.I'm getting the instructional DVD for 20.00. |
good link for you guys

I have a Garmin Venture. It's not as sophisticated but it sells for $169 and you can download the maps into it and view your tracks in google earth also. The memory is built in so you can't load the entire U.S. but I have everything on my computer and just upload the maps that I need before I go hunting.
