Buy a summit. (period) I had an old man, it slid down the tree over 5 times when I was using it, and i was using it right. Bought the summit and never felt safer. First time I climbed in it I climbed up to 25 ft and did not realize it till my bow rope got tight, never was that high in the old man b/c I never felt safe.

all in all, Buy a Summit. I love my viper!

I just bought a new Summit Goliath.I had a Grand Ol' Man for years and decided to replace it.I think the Summit is a well made and comfortable stand. Watch E Bay.I got mine for $259 and free shipping.

SUMMIT.......PERIOD.....I go 30 feet plus often. i often go to high. Its so comfortable, sturdy, and easy to use. It has its flaws to i guess. THe paint is chipping off mine and i had to replace the outside cable tubes. I have had it 6 plus years. I have got my money out of it by 10X. I hunt alot and often. I will be gettina anew one this year. Fiance wants to start hunting from a tree. This is the only stand that she would go up in.i get the new one:D

RE: climber deer stand

Summit Period # 15. I have spent a couple hundred days in mine and it's still the most comfortable safest stand I have ever seen. Lone Wolfs are cool but not nearly as comfortable, kinda the price you pay for the weight savings.

Well, I like my Hunter's View well enough, but I'm thinking about going to an Equalizer or Timbertall. Both those have leveling adjustment. The Equalizer seems to have a slightly quieter cable. Can anybody talk to how quiet or level the Summit is? Also, how stable is it when you lean side to side. The Ameristep and Equalizer look like they lock best on the tree.

I have a summit climber and my last one was a summit also. I have several summit fixed stands also. I have to say though that I saw these stands at a show recently and I was thoroughly impressed!!! When I am ready I will definitely look hard at these. They are lighter I believe than the summit viper and are rated for 300 pounds. They nest in to each other for carrying/packing out. The seat was comfortable also and overall its a very versatile unit.

so you guys would take a summit over the lone wolf alpha sit and climb...just wondering because I was about to buy the lone wolf

oldreloader 03-15-2008 11:53 AM

RE: climber deer stand

Personally I don't care for the belt that goes around the tree. They even list it as something extra you might want to buy on their web page for the sit and climb.I'm sure Lone Wolf make fine stands and they are safe.I just don't like the belt.Personal Thing.

i was in the same spot you were between a summit and the lone wolf...i heard multiple people say the lone wolf seat is not all that comfortable and some actually put a summit replacement seat on their lone wolf. at $360 a pop for the lone wolf i went and a got a summit viper SS for $240 and im happy with the decision. the summit only weighs 2lbs more i believe.

RE: climber deer stand

well I also like the fact that it folds flat...so that there is nothing hanging off that could get caught on something...and nothing that makes extra noise when walking

I have used them ALL,. Summit Goliath was my last for about 5 years till I tried the Equalizer. Hand down on this one. If you Summit users ever get the money to afford one or even just totry it out at a show or something I think you will be changing also.;)

CamoCop 03-16-2008 03:40 AM

RE: climber deer stand

no thanks, i have used an Equalizer before and my Goliath is more comfortable and easier to use. the ONLY advantage the Equalizer has is that it gives you the option to hunt facing the tree if you want.

I have a summit viper and a tree lounge. I like both as they have their good qualities. I don't have an adapter on my TL because I would not feel safe that far away from the tree. I use my Summit for bow hunting and some gun hunting.

RE: climber deer stand

i bought my lone wolf due to its superior ability of the way its made it will make no noise when stepping back and forth. VERY QUIET and lightweight. dont mind the seat, but i am not overweight. Does anyone notice any main difference in climbing ease between the two. There are probably certain advantages to each one you just gotta choose what it is you are after

RE: climber deer stand

I own both the Summit Broadhead Backpacker and the Lone Wolf Hand climber. There are pro's and con's on both.
Summit is heavier, more comfortable for a long sit but noisier to set up. The Lone Wolf is much lighter, the seat can get uncomfortable for anextended sit, but it is extremely quiet.
If I had to pick one, I would go with the Lone Wolf. Just my $.02.

I am 59 years old, 6' 1" and 250#. I climb about every specie of tree that we have here in the deep south. Frompines to hard barked hickories to slick barked sycamores. Believe me, I use only a HD , secure climber.Though others apparently have, I have had zero problems with and have 100% confidence in the original Ol' Manclimbers of which I have 7 "Grand" versions. Also have used the new Summit that belongs to my cousin. I forget which model. It is one of their newer HD aluminum models. It is super.Climbs easily, sturdy. comfortableand stiff ... and quiet.I believe you will not go wrong with any of the new Summit models.Too bad the old style Mississippi made "Ol' Man" stands are apparently gone for good.

My Summit Backpacker folds up to about 5 inches..I'm in a WMA so the deer are real nervous..
I camo ducked taped all the metal parts which silenced the metal moving parts very good..I try to take my time when setting up and packing in order not to spook game.

Setting up.. taking my time 5 minutes and I'm settled in the tree.

Packing up..taking my time 10 minutes..I try to be just as quiet leaving my area as I am getting there.
