2 Way Radios

I've had a couple of pairs of motorolas in the past that worked sufficiently, but the last pair I bought were a bust. I don't know if they were just a "bad pair" or if motorola's quality has slipped. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Motorola is one of the oldest and most respected brands in radio, so the odds are you just got a bad pair. The warranty should cover you unless it's expired. I've noted that the quality of FRS/GMRS radios in general seems to have declined of late, possibly due to their country of manufacture(China).

I've tried Motorola, Midland, and S-Cobra. Motorola are the best of the three IMO.

Bought a pair of Motorola 8500's today and they are not worth a darn. Not near as good as an old pair of Moto 5000's that I've had several years. The last two pair that I've had have been re-chargable. I don't know how that could be affecting my reception when I use regular batteries, but something is causing poor reception. I'm taking the 8500 back and getting a refund and will look for an alternative.

I'm not a huge fan of 2-way radios. They never seem to work well!!
If your hunting in hilly terrain, you can't contact the other person???
So when they claim a range of 10 + miles, I guess what they really mean is the way the crow flys!! In other words, flat terrain only!!

I'm leaning with usinga cell phone set on vibrate alert. This way, you'll be sure to "CONTACT" the other people in your party, no matter what the terrain features are!!!
;)

Bought a pair of Midland GTX850's and they perform much better than the Moto 8500's.
