FRS radios

like the below inquiry, i am looing for a "good" 2 way radio; i had motorola frs60s but they were stolen; i would like to find some that are "silent" (no beeps when done talking, ability to mute call beeps, etc.); also don't want to spend a fortune
i have been unable to find any that are like that

it would be nice to have a "hunter" radio that had these (& other) features

RE: FRS radios

The original post was about FRS radios. The 6400's must be GMRS radios. How much cost and hassle to license these radios? I am trying to decide between FRS, with a range of maybe 2 miles, and GMRS which have to be licensed, but go up to at least 5 miles.

Any personal experience would be appreciated

If I were you I'd get the Motorola 5820's. I reccomend them radios over any other radios for 5 or 2 mile use. Plus right now motorola is offering a $20 rebate on them. You can get a pair at most outdoor store for $80 after rebate. Cobra, Midland, audiovox, remington, etc, these other brands aren't as good as the motorolas.

With the GMRS radios good up to 5 miles, just how much is the fcc liscence. I'm looking for anyone that knows, because the fcc websight, is a little smarter than I am, because I can't find it. Any help is appreciated because I have a set and am looking to get set up.

which ever one you choose, use them at a pre-agreed time, except emergencies. I lost a bear as big as a VW bug when my brother-in-law called me seconds before this bear would have stepped into view 10 yds away.

Bill, you may want to either turn yours off except for a specific time or buy the newer models with vibrator capability which vibrates instead of squawking when your partner calls you.

<img src=icon_smile_cool.gif border=0 align=middle> My Cobras have the vibration alert feature & it works great...a wee bit thrilling as well when it started vibrating away in my pocket!<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle> Brampton Mike <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>
