Save yourself some money and buy the 870 Combo...

In my opinion, the bps is WAYYY better than the 870. Not that there's anything wrong with 870,just bps is better. Just like the 870 is WAYYY better than mossberg. I like the bottom load/eject and smoother action of the bps.

I have both and personally prefer the BPS. I don't have a rifled barrel for the BPS, just the 870. The 870 combo pack is agood buy. You'll pay more for a BPS. I really wanted the BPS to have bottom eject and top saftey because I shoot lefty. The BPS has a little betterfit and finish and smoother action. You can't go wrong with either one. If you go with the 870 I recommend a Wingmaster. The bead-blast finish on the Express is a painto keep clean. F&S just ran an article saying that Remington plans to make it's 10 millionth 870 next year. Since 1950. That has to say something.

Personally I would go with the BPS. I own a 3.5'' BPS Stalker. I have literally put it through hell for almost ten years now and have not had it fail one single time.

I'm also a lefty which makes it even better.

RE: BPS or 870

The 870, without a doubt, IMHO. I had one for 4 years and it never gave me any problems at all. The only reason I don't have it now is because I traded it for a Benelli M2.:) But I would buy another one in a heartbeat to be a backup for my Benelli. I just couldn't make mine quit.

My dad has had an 870 Wingmaster since 1974 and he is still shooting it to day with no apparent wear on it other than the blueing is wearing off. The only shotgun he has.

I have both shotguns and IMO the BPS is a stronger, better built shotgun. Having said that, my 870 has never given me a problem.

I own both guns, and there is no comparison. The BPS is the better gun hands down!

If your looking for a combo gun to start hunting with then the 870 is a good gun. I can't speak for the BPS because I've never owned one. If you are looking for just a pure slug gun used for deer and such, I'd suggest going to a H & R single shot slugger or going with an inline muzzleloader. You would save money with either one.

I bought a BPS 20 years ago, mainly because of the bottom eject (less chasing of hulls at the skeet range), but I also have an 870 riot, er.. defense gun. Both will get the job done.

RE: BPS or 870

If comparing the 870 wingmaster with the BPS, I understand. But the 870 express has alot corners cut. You can't beat it for the money. I have a BPS camo, and love it. I haven't put it thru the paces yet. But love brownings patterning compared to remington. the BPS is just overall a more quality gun.

The bad news is everything for browning is so expensive. But 870 stuff is everywhere. I have two 870 expresses, and they are good for what I use em for.

Lastly, alot of folks don't like the Brownings bottom feed and eject. If your one of those people, think about the 870
