UPDATE on Polaris 300 xplorer

Hello,
As you can see pic in the other post. I talked to the owner. He said that it has been in storage for four years (divorce). When he go it out he replaced the seals in the front 4x4 section because they were leaking. His sister rode it before he could get the Carb cleaned and it did something to piston. He said that the piston and rings had been replaced, carb cleaned. He said very low milage. The Tires are original and told me to look at the tread to maybe get indication of how long its been rode. Anyway he said he didn't want to sell something that was going to cause problems for someone else. It's a two stroke, where the oil mixes itself. Said runs great and rides nice. Are the two strokes just as good as the rest?
Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated!
Thanks Crutch

i'd steer clear of the 2 strokes. i know 3 people with them and 2 have had the engine blow and one has tons of smaller problems with it. and then you gotta mix gas, etc. And biggest problem with it is the fact it doesn't say H-O-N-D-A. I'd look at some 250 Recons like you previously mentioned. I have a TRX250TE and I have taken it places my buddies had difficulty on 4x4 Ranchers, Arctic Cats, etc. I paid 3108 out the door for mine. You have alot less to tear up on it, really peppy for a 250. You can pick up good used ones dirt cheap often times.

Polaris two strokes have oil injection. They're good machines.

Yes it is oil injected. The guy just put front seals in the 4x4 section and new piston, rings and gasket....due to his sister ridding it before he could get the carb cleaned, it had been stored for 4 yrs. He said looks and runs like a dream. I am still on the fence about it, may have to go drive it and see for myself. He said that it has the original tires on it. So not alot of miles.
Thanks for the replies!

If you don't mind the tinny noise and smelly exhaust, the 2 stroke should be fine. One thing you might want to be careful of is the suspension, though. I haven't ridden any '99's, but our '96 sportsman 400 is a nightmare to ride. Rough roads toss you all over the place, and it nearly pitches you off every time you hit unseen rocks. So when you go take it for a test ride, be sure to drive on more than just flat roads so that you can get a feel for how well the suspension works.
