contemplating making a ghillie suit...
Any suggestions? I was thinking of getting a longsleeve, heavier material camo shirt and pants from the local army surplus and sewing burlap strips to it and maybe some frayed rope and various other types of woodsy materials as well as figuring out a way to insert small branches and such into it.
Good idea? Bad idea? Mainly I want one but don't quite have the necessary funds. |

Yes, excellent idea, I know a few of the snipers from the local police dept. and they do the same thing for their ghillie suits, those things are excellent for bowhunting.

RE: contemplating making a ghillie suit...
I bought a ghillie suit kit once , it used a poncho cut piece of nylon netting for the base and dyed burlap strings . They can be extremely time consuming to construct , and rather heavy once completed , and they absorb odors quite easily .A Sleeping Indian style suit would be the way I'd go next time , you could use any old shirt and pants for the base and cut thin strips of $4 per yard camo fabric from the sewing section at your local Wal-Mart . A hot glue gun would speed up attaching the strips , and you can get one for very cheap at dollar stores .

I bought a kit from ghille suits.com and it took about 40 hours to complete. But it works awsome and they have different ones available. All you get is some nettingand jute string and you do the rest. I will try to post a pic.

My dog almost attacked me when he saw me with it on. I had to make sure he heard my voice.
