Id reccommmend a Grohmann #4 survival or a #1 original, both are fine knives and are backed by a great warrenty... wow did that ever sound like a sales pitch... seriously though they're great knives.

I use a Buck Alpha w/ a guthook. My uncle used it a few years ago on his deer and loved it. Now everyone in our camp uses one. It holds a sharp edge and is very durable. You can also use it for a bottle opener

I just purchased a bunch of knives from Puma.

They are incredibly sharp and hold an edge quite well.

You can't beat a German knife.

I have an Alaskan Kodi-Pac and like it a lot. It inclused a medium knife with gut hook, caper, and saw. The caper is my favorite knife from the pack. You can't beat it for the price. You can pick one up for about $60.

As for any other knife, look for one that holds an edge.

Hella knives are my favorite. A laminate steel knife that is hand-made without the custom knife price. http://www.darktimberdesign.com/helleknife/

A lot of the guides up here use them, and a friend who is a sheep and bear guide turned me onto them. I like them so much, I bought my dad one for Christmas last year. He loves his.
