Pac/winter Boot
 

Been thinking about buying a pair of pac boots for winter use mostly butmay see some blind hunting duty.

Schnee's worth the money? I like the idea of more support with the leather upper/lacing but not sure the extremes are worth the extra for my usage. Input or other suggestions? My main winter boot has been irish setters hunting bootssince retiring my Sorels a few years ago but they are also in need of replacement.

If you can get to a military surplus store, try and find what are called "Mickey Mouse" boots. these are designed for use in Antartica, and cost around $80. they are pretty bulky but extremely warm. just a suggestion

I recommend Lacrosse Ice Kings! Feet have never ever been even cold with 1 pair of cotton socks. lol Just don't plan on walking 5 miles.

We actually called them "bunny boots." The old style were large and white, but you may be able to find the newer versions that are quite a bit smaller and also in black. I have not yet run across a pair, but would buy them in a heart beat if I did, as they are awesome for very cold weather.

Schnees are GREAT boots. Been my choice for years. Definately worth the money... IMO

I hunt in cold snowy terrain in VT, NH, and Maine and always use LaCrosse boots for my hunts. Early season I use uninsulated burleys or the new lite weight Alpha Burley 800. Late season and for ice fishing I use the 1200 burleys. I have a pair of Ice Kings but never hunt with them since they are so bulky. On the real cold -20 degree ice fishing they are the nuts. When I hunt I am usually tracking and still hunting so I rarely sit for more than an hour. Ice fishing is another thing. I fish for panfish and sit all day on a bucket so the boots have to be warm. The 1200 Burleys aren't that bulky and usually keep my feet toasty. In both ice fishing and hunting I like the rubber boots because they can't let your feet get wet. Most of the time those army surplus mickey mouse boots are real bulky, heavy and don't have decent treads for traction in the snow and ice.

I've been through a lot of pairs of pac boots over the years (including Schnee's and Sorels) and my new favorites are the Kenetrek line of pacs. Go with the 13" Grizzly if you're going to be hiking around alot or stand hunting in temperatures that aren't exactly brutal. The Northerns are great if you plan to do more frigid stand hunting, ice fishing, etc.

In case you want to check my credibility just take a look to your left and see where I live. It was -15 this morning in Fairbanks and that's pretty warm for the winter time around here.

I have two pairs of schnees.I have used them on late season sheep and elk hunts as well as for hunting deer in very cold weather.They are very comfortable and have great support for a pac boot.
